So I'm a dork.
I.
Love.
My.
Job.
I look at these kids that I've been working with and I can't believe how far some of them have come. I have a few kids that are well known "trouble" kids, and this entire week they've been so well behaved... I'm proud of them. One of them used to fight everyone, yell, back talked... just general misbehaving. This week he's been great. Instead of running off to his friends first thing when he gets there, he'll come over and talk to me for a bit. He listens when I ask him to do something, he hasn't been fighting, he does things without asking (he's been sweeping!) and (this is the shocker here) he asks for permission to do things. Today he asked me if he could go get a ball. Normally he would never ask. But he knew it was in an area I don't let them go, he asked, and I told him he could.
All of my kids have been so wonderful. I honestly think I have the best group at the Y. I've only had to send one up to the office this week, and that was because he was hurt. Nobody has been in serious trouble.
Gah.
I just love knowing that I'm making a difference in these children's lives. It's such a rerwarding feeling.
And my boss actually tells me I'm doing a good job and that she appreciates me which is awesome because I've never had a boss really appreciate me.
It's just great.
Oh... and the Y is really short staffed right now. If you're not a "kid person" they are short staffed at the desk and everything. I don't know much about the rest of the Y... I'm based in the youth and family section. But the desk person today was telling me that the front desk was short. So... If you're looking for a job... check it out.
