However, somehow he managed to bring Draco Malfoy, who'd been dead for over twenty years, back to life. Now with the war starting up again, Draco has to remake his choice about becoming a Death Eater or not.

A long time ago, not long after wizards went into hiding from Muggles, a woman and her three sons came to a deep, rushing river. The young boys clutched anxiously at their mother’s skirts. She looked down at her sons and tried to reassure them, but her wild hair covered how troubled her eyes were. She needed to get them across the river to protect them, however, not many people survived crossing the river without help. She did not have the time to wait.

On the other side of the river, a black mist appeared. It gathered substance till Death himself appeared, chuckling softly to himself. He could see the woman would try to take herself and her sons across, and he was delighted to be taking four more souls with him across the veil.

A mother’s love proved to be strong, however. The mother did not have much power, but she desperately pulled out her wand and incanted for a bridge to appear. The force of her desire caused a strong and safe bridge to span the entire river. Relieved, they all crossed to the other side.

As they stepped off the bridge, Death came to greet them. The boys shouted in fear and hid behind their mother. However, this woman feared nothing except harm for her children. She stood proudly.

Death congratulated her on her strength of will in getting over the river. It was not often that people escaped him, and so he offered her a gift. She was dying from a sickness in her lungs, and he offered to heal her.

“I do not need to be healed. Once my boys are safe I will be content to die. Please, if you could, gift my sons instead.”

However, her sons did not like this. They loved their mother very much. All of the boys were very different, and each had different fathers, but all of them were like their mother in being unafraid and fierce when necessary.

Her eldest son, with white blonde hair and a wise look in his eyes, snarled at Death. “I do not need a gift. My father offers me all of the riches of the world. Cure my mother instead.’

The second eldest son’s face was as red as his hair. He had a temper to match his fiery red hair, and it showed. “I do not need a gift. I will be strong and brave for my mother. Heal her instead.”

The youngest son was the most like his mother. His hair never seemed to lie flat and he had her face. He was not angry at Death. “Thank you, but I do not need a gift either.” He looked Death straight in the eye, solemn and serious. “I am not as strong as my brothers but I would rather my mother be well than have anything.”

Death knew this young boy. The boy had watched Death take his father away and had not cried. He’d said when they had last met that his father had been in a lot of pain and he was glad he was free of it now. He was moved by this family and their strength, but most especially by the youngest son.

“Very well. I have met very few people who have been so self-sacrificing in the face of being offered great power. Your mother has taught you wisdom. For that, I will heal your mother and will give each of you a gift.

To the eldest son. Your father may give you whatever you want in the world, but he will never give you anything like this. This is an invisibility cloak, the only one in the world. It will hide you from everything, even me. If you are wise, your children after you will use their riches and cloak to hide from the darkness that nips at their heels.

To the middle son, your strength is evident. However, a young wizard needs a wand to show his strength by. I give you the Elder Wand, the strongest wand in the world. Use it wisely and you will be known far and wide for your strength and courage, as will your children after you.

To the youngest son. You and I have met before, and I have grown fond of you. You will receive two gifts. The first is the Resurrection Stone, which if you turn three times will call any of the dead to speak to you. The second is raw magical power. You will now be one of the strongest wizards in the world, and so will your children after you. However, it is both a blessing and a curse to be loved by Death. With the Resurrection Stone and power people will come to fear you for being so much like me.”

With that, Death disappeared in a whirl of black fire.

The mother and her sons walked through the grove of trees towards the town, where they would be safe and live happily ever after.
