I don't believe in setting a starting target date for goals, such as New Year's resolutions. If you pick a date to start something, you're setting yourself up for eventual failure. By dreading your own improvement, and prolonging the change until some arbitrary date, you allow yourself to create excuses that hinder or destroy your future progress.
As of the 26th of December, I decided to stall my drinking, which, as of today, I've been 5 days alchohol free. I'm heading to Tampa Saturday night (New Year's Eve) for a party and show, then a fairly mild after party. This has inspired my roommate to quit smoking dope, and as of today, he's been 4 days weed free. Sobriety has worked out well for the both of us, and we're finding ourselves much more clear headed. If I find myself unable to just have one or two drinks while drinking, I'll quit all together.
I have continuing goals, such as a workout regimen and a diet. I've found myself quite comfortable and fortunate in life, and it's time I focus on my health and live it properly.
