Title: Twelve for a Lifetime
Author:
mismatch_meRating: PG
Summary: Kurt and Blaine's anniversary. How Blaine made the day horribly cliche, but it worked alright in the end.
A/N: God, when did I start sucking at summaries? Always? Well. Anyway! This little thing is for KlaineWeek over at
K_B for their anniversary. I'm cutting it close, y'all. It's 11:30. ><
Disclaimer: No ownership claimed. I'm simply loving my boys.
Somehow, Blaine had bribed Finn into putting one on Kurt's pillow next to his head before he woke up.
There was another in the seat of the Navigator standing out starkly against the black leather.
Another was given to Kurt with a smile and a nod by TJ (Joe to anyone else but the God Squad/Glee club, it was just that Puck never stopped saying “Teen Jesus” and it kind of stuck) as he got out of his car with Finn.
Three sat in a tiny plastic vase in front of his locker, shining bright red against the dull palette of the halls. As Kurt picked the vase up, he turned to his locker, spinning the combination quickly.
Two more leaned on Kurt’s calculus book with an attached note. Who knew Anderson would ever need help breaking into a locker? It was written in Puck’s elementary scrawl. Kurt smiled. He still had not caught or seen the perpetrator of the on-going flattery he was currently receiving. But they shared an English class second period, there would be no missing him then.
Kurt’s plan seemed to be in vain when he saw his boyfriend round the far corner, both hands clasped nicely behind his back, obviously hiding something. Or, Kurt guessed, somethings.
But Blaine only stood in front of him silently, with one of his hundred watt smiles glowing on his face. Kurt looked down the hall, searching for anyone that might see what he was about to do. Thankfully, in his haste to see Blaine on this day, of all days, Kurt had arrived exceptionally early.
No one was mulling around in the halls.
Kurt leaned forward and gave his boyfriend a warm, lingering kiss, pulling away only when he felt it absolutely necessary. Blaine’s smile looked like it would break his face in half.
Four roses appeared in front of him. Three red, one a seriously dull pink that looked almost sad. Kurt arched an eyebrow, reaching out for the small bunch. The pink one was plastic, he realized. Fabric.
“I wasn’t going to do it, Kurt, I promise. It was going to be too cliche, even for me, and I couldn’t bring myself to get to that level.” Blaine scratched at the back of his neck, anxious for reasons that Kurt really couldn’t understand. So far in their relationship, they had hit every cliche in the book. Hell, they had practically written the damn thing. Blaine was faltering here, though.
“Then, I realized that we had practically skimmed through every chapter of the “How To Be a Couple: The Rom-Com” in the past year. So, cheesy- which I personally think is romantic- or not, I will say this to you now.” He took a deep breath, and Kurt finally understood.
“Oh. Oh. God, Blaine.” He buried his face in his hands, an attempt to hide the blush rising on his cheeks.
“You’re not really about to sa-”
“Kurt Hummel.” Blaine cut him off, grinning like the cat who got the cream. “I will love you until this last rose dies. Forever and always, as long as you’ll have me.”
Why had Kurt’s breath caught? He didn’t know. The tears that prickled the corners of his eyes were strange too. He was pretty used to the increased heart rate when within touching range of Blaine, so, that putterputterputterputter in his chest wasn’t exactly new.
They had not talked about forever. This silly, stupid, cheesy wonderful thing that Blaine had done definitely knocked a few things out of the strict we’re-not-gonna-think-about-it column in Kurt’s brain. This was a step, whether Blaine was thinking the same thing, he couldn’t tell, but in his own mind, this flower thing... it meant something.
Blaine was ready for the rest of their lives, the solid kind of forever that Kurt saw when he looked at Tina and Mike or his father and Carol or that one glimpse of the Berry family together. Blaine’s eyes sparkled with the light that Kurt didn’t know what to do with except cherish and keep safe as long as possible.
He pulled Blaine into a hug so sudden and tight, it knocked the wind out of both of them.
“I love you.” Kurt said into Blaine’s gelled-down curls.
“I love you more,” came the reply.
