I take the time to wonder
what the years could have provided
while we were out consuming,
absorbing individual arrangements of
collective knowledge.
What I learned while away from you
was what it's like to wait--
how sweet it is, and painful,
to know there's nothing but patience to have.
Early this morning, before the sun rose,
I stared at your silhouette, patiently,
knowing the clock would call me away.
This evening, as I lie in my bed,
I realize
my life has been a study guide
for this moment
and the next.
