Terror
Sitting on an airplane,
I don't fear the person next to me,
or the man next to him--
even if their skin shines dimmer
and their lips curl tighter.
What scares me are the looks on the other faces.
Over the shoulder,
back and forth,
the gazes meet and separate,
as the eve of their comfort
drops into history
with the mere inability to understand small-talk
in a language, not their own.
Observing, as always,
I see the fear of Fox News on her face.
Next to her is BBC.
I passed CNN, in the front.
What I don't see--
even with wide-open hope--
is a break for these wandering eyes.
