Title: Feel Something
Pairing: Adelle/Claire
Rating: PG
The pain in her hip was terrible, almost unbearable. She could feel the needle piercing her delicate pale skin: again, and again, and again. The gun shot wound had to be sewed, still she decided not to take any anesthetics. Anesthetics were for the weak, who couldn't take physical pain. Adelle DeWitt wasn't weak and to prove it, she refused anything that could ease her pain.
It was a proof of superiority over the people working for her, too.
She didn't look at the doctor by her side, she just kept focusing on a single leaf of a plant in front of her. Pain was just a state of mind and her mind was strong enough to block it.
Soft skin. Woman's touch.
How long has it been since a woman touched her like this? Adelle closed her eyes and moaned, knowing the woman next to her will assume it was a painful moan. Once she thought about pain, she could feel the needle and the twine in her hip again.
"This would have been easier if you've taken an anesthetic."
Dr. Saunders didn't sound pitiful. Nor worrying. Adelle was almost sure the cut woman sounded caring. A little too caring for an employee.
"It's nothing."
It was nothing: just a gunshot. She could bear physical pain. A few minutes later, after the wound was sewed and Adelle had her blouse on again, Dr. Saunders spoke again:
"It's okay to feel something."
She froze. Was it okay to feel something? Guilt, love, remorse. Feelings that were powerful enough to destroy her from within. And still later, when the Dolls were asleep and the cameras off, she kissed Claire behind the glass door. Her lips brushed the soft skin on Doctor's neck, her hands caressed the old, yet still fresh scars.
She felt something.
And whatever it was, it started consuming her from within until there was no escape but to let herself fall in love with Doctor Claire Saunders.
