I Like Grapes!

Today was the 7th day of my 13-day-working-fortnight. Its not that bad (says I after the first week). I'm going to really appreciate that 1 Saturday off per fortnight!

After playing 2 games of ping-pong on Friday afternoon (Penny + I won against Alex & Nick but lost against Mel + Rashi), I made my way over to Tash's to go to Rhodes and watch Charlie + The Chocolate Factory. Mmmm a dinner of choc top, popcorn and pepsi max! Reviews post movie were split 50/50. The movie was average (although Tim Burton is a cinematic genius), I liked the extra plot twists but Johnny Depp was fantastic! He's so kooky! Yieah.

WW> Good morning starshine! The Earth says hello!

MT> Who wants a beard?
WW> Well, beatniks for one, folk singers and motorbike riders. Y'know. All those hip, jazzy, super cool, neat, keen, and groovy cats. It's in the fridge, daddy-o! Are you hip to the jive? Can you dig what I'm layin' down? I knew that you could. Slide me some skin, soul brother!

WW> Everything in this room is eatable. Even I'm eatable. But that is called cannibalism, my dear children, and is in fact frowned upon in most societies.

GG> You smell like peanuts. I like peanuts.
WW> You smell like old people... and soap. I like it.

I was telling Cate about this at Marcs on Saturday and she was all like "Yeah.. my boyfriend wont watch it because he thinks its a conspiracy to sell Wonka bars" (I think someone listens to too much Merrick + Rosso). She also thinks that Mike Myers should've played Willy Wonka. She mumbles. I don't like mumblers.

I thought I needed to put in some family hours, so I agreed to go to a dinner in ChinaTown on Saturday night. Upon waltzing in, I find that its a full banquet set up for the Masonic Society that my grandfather was a part of. We scored a rockstar table right next to the stage.. this was good because we were close to the action for the dragon dance:

(hehee! It eats lettuce!) But bad because we were near the speakers and had to listen to all these boring speeches thoughout the 8-course feed.

I found out a lot of things about my grandfather.. that he was the GrandMaster of this society (hehe, I'm STILL reading The DaVinci Code!) for 35years and the current GrandMaster was appointed by him 3 months before he died. AND!.. after years of conspiring with my cousin, this society was quite underground during the 60's.. even mafia-esque.. which answers all the dark sunglasses and switchblades Ken & I found in his desk! My mum doesn't think he would've killed anyone.. but I definately believe there was some threating and some hurtin' going down! I also had a flashback (I'm sorry) of the 3 mystery men that showed up at the funeral who my uncle wanted to kickass. Enemies perhaps? I mentioned that bit to my Mum and she denies knowledge. So yeah.. kung-fu movie style!

So after sitting through a multitude of speeches, we got through the auction and we come to the raffle! They had given us the booklets earlier on in the night and I convinced my Mum not to be a tightarse and buy the whole book for $100 (or it was 1 for $5 or 10 for $3). Long story short (sorry to everyone who heard the long version), this is what we bagged (photos courtesy of my phone):

My cousin Jeremy with his new toaster:

Me with a rice cooker:

My little cousin Danielle with her Hennessy Cognac:

Melinda with her copperart-esque lamp:

My Aunty Erica got a booby-prize bag of dried pork sausages and a gift vouchers to buy barbeque meats!
Table 43 cleaned up! Go Blue B!

This morning, mum was complaining about how we buy stuff and just leave them in the cupboards to rot.
"Nothing last forever.." she says
"Even cold november rain" I reply as I crack myself up.

Spent the horrible cold and drizzly day back at Myer. I can't believe that people were already returning Father's Day gifts! Stupid consumers.

I am now off to make Jamie Oliver's Rigatoni with sweet tomatoes, eggplants and mozzarella! :-D
