How can I show my age?
Let me count the ways...
(a bow to
elaran for borrowing her signature plus signs)
+ I bought Time/Life's "Soft Sounds of the 70's" set
+ I talked about 'Kung Fu Theatre' at lunch a few weeks ago
+ I looked at a '$2.45/gallon' sign for regular, unleaded gas and remembered 1) the 1979 gas crisis under Jimmy Carter and 2) when gas was $0.85/gallon (or less!)
+ I remembered during a Toonami 'flashback' on Cartoon Network, a time when there was no Cartoon Network
+ I remembered during that same Toonami 'flashback' the opening theme to, and several pieces of episodes from, the original 'Johnny Quest'
+ While watching a re-run of Ro Laran's first episode on Star Trek:TNG, I remembered seeing the episode when it first aired in 1991
+ While watching the opening scenes of a Star Trek:TNG episode with 'the crystal entity', had a flashback to the Star Trek: Original Series episode where Spock got shot with some spores, went "fully human" and fell in love. The planets of both episodes looked similar, which may not have been a coincidence.
+ While watching someone eating one of the mini-Reeses' cups from the candy jar on my desk, suddenly remembered when mini-Reeses' cups didn't exist
+ I was working on a MS Word document, when I suddenly remembered working in WordPerfect 2.0 (or whichever one it was when it was white writing on a blue screen before Corel got it.
tool_man,
rhyslynnalkendr ,
grassyknoll67, or
jeff_morris can you help me out here?)
+ During the WordPerfect flashback, abruptly remembered working on a CompuCorp computer with 5 1/4" floppy disks as a high school work-study student and a WANG terminal in my early 20's (Also remembered when Lotus Notes was the "newest" and hottest" accounting tool)
+ While watching the movie "The Core" on TV, after a scene where the resident 'computer geek' was playing a modern version of 'Pong', I remembered playing 'Pong' myself on an Atari system
+ I vividly remember
- when the Minnesota Vikings were called 'The Purple People Eaters'
- the Astrodome in Houston was "The House of Pain"
- the Pittsburgh Steelers had "The Steel Curtain"
- the Oakland Raiders played at the Oakland Coliseum before moving to LA
- the Baltimore Colts had some of the best fans in the league and the team snuck out of town like thieves in the
night, became the Indianapolis Colts, and SUCKED for nearly 20 years
- with fondness, Tom Landry and the Dallas Cowboys of old
- Candlestick Park before it was "3Com" and "Monster"
- 'the catch' made by Dwight Clark of a ball thrown by Joe Montana
+ I remember endless hours at the arcade watching my friends play Pac-Man, Galaga, Centipede, Space Invaders and
Galaxian LONG before they were available on any gaming system or PC
+I remember when a 'portable' computer was this heavy as hell thing nicknamed 'the lunch box' because of it's ungainly
rectanguilar shape and that it had this gnarly colored screen and that the letters would come up in this eye-burning orange
+ I remember DOS...
+ And for all my DC area folks (the both of you *snicker*), I remember OK-100 and WPGC ("Where people get cash")
EDIT:
+ Songs: "Disco Duck", "Pac-Man Fever", "Shuduppa Ya Face", and "Another One Rides the Bus"
+ I remember when 'Weird Al' first got popular with "My Bologna".
