So, what have I been doing recently?

Princess Tutu marathon. Once again. Because it's a good series. But, since I know that the word Princess can be an aversion to those of you who grew out of magical girl series eaons ago, Mishi has decided to explain.

The story of Princess Tutu starts like this: There was an author called Drosselmyer, who died in the process of writing a story about a valiant prince and a monster raven, locking them into everlasting combat. The prince and the raven, tiring of the fight, escaped from the story, and the prince finally managed to seal away the raven, but only by shattering his own heart. Now Drosselmyer, who, like many authors, is sadistically dedicated to giving his characters a hard time, has somehow managed to cheat death and is still able to manipulate the course of events.

And so it is that one day, a duck was swimming on her lake, minding her own business when she saw the now heart-less prince dancing on the water, and was struck by his beauty and the sadness in his eyes, and wished she could help him. Drosselmyer gave the duck an egg-shaped pendant which turned her into Princess Tutu, and charged her with finding the peices of the Prince's heart and returning them to him.

Best AMV ever: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tHZqxecCukg

White-haired dude: Mytho aka the Prince, aka the Pantsless Wonder, King of No Pants, the guy whose pansy-ass Princess Tutu has to save all the time. I have several good things to say about Mytho. Being a token male, he doesn't do much, but when he DOES get kidnapped and brainwashed, he makes a more convincing villain than, say, Tuxedo Mask, or Gourry. Another thing is, he's not Princess Tutu's destined prince. In fact, Drosselmyer is very specific about this: if Princess Tutu confesses her love to him, she'll dissapear in a flash of light.

Orange-haired chick: obviously, Princess Tutu. It's kinda confusing because she's a duck, but spends most of the series as a girl, even when she's not Princess Tutu. They call her Ahiru, which means duck in japanese. When she's not Princess Tutu, she's very clumsy, and actually a pretty awkward dancer. Good things about Ahiru: The way she distances herself from her role as Princess Tutu. The fact that she's not annoying. Also, short transformation sequences and no attack sequences to speak of. And the dancing is fun to watch.

Black-haired chick in skanky tutu: Rue, aka Princess Kraehe/Claire, aka the ballet ninja. She takes advantage of Mytho's lack of heart to call herself his girlfriend. In the beginning, when Mytho didn't have a heart, he couldn't know what love was like, so when Rue told him he loved her, he believed her. Good things about Rue: Well, this is kinda hard, since she's not sympathetic until you know more about her. But, well, that scene where she kisses Mytho as she rips out a part of his heart is just sweet (and by sweet I mean totally cool). Also, I get a kick out of her crow minions.

Black-haired dude: Fakir. My favorite character. He's a lot like Rue at the beginning of the series. You get the impression that he's taking advantage of Mytho's heart-less predicament to control and manipulate him, but he's really not that bad a guy. If I went on about all the good things about him I'd melt into a fangirl puddle and you wouldn't get any sense out of me, so I'll just leave it at that.

Good things about the series: The fight sequences watch like stage-fighting. It's pretty funky. Fakir is a good thing, but if I go there you know what will happen. Nothing turns out the way you expect. It's a great series.
