The following are a couple of my daughter's recent writings:
Mother's Day 5-12-13:

MOM
by Andrea Walker
For all the love a daughter has for her mother
…cannot be expressed on a simple card.
The love is always there in thick and thin
…and can bring the world together.
For me, the word, “Mom,” has a thousand meanings,
…but each live up to the kindness in your heart.
Even when times have been hard,
…you seem to tell trouble you've outwitted it.
You yell at the top of your lungs
…that you have climbed the mountain.
You are more than halfway out of the dark;
...you’re at the entrance to the light.
And you know what all that means?
…it means I love you.
Bad Dream 5-16-13:

"I don't feel hungry," I told her, even though the truth was I was starving. "All right," she started to walk away. Suddenly all I could think about was that food. I scolded myself. 'You jerk! Your mother just died and all you can think about is those blasted cheese nips!' I quickly went out into the hall and told Alli that I really did want them. I walked back into the class, eating the cheese nips. I guess it was a guilt food, but I didn't know that...
My door opened. My mother's soothing voice almost made me cry. I opened my eyes and saw her, standing in the door way of my room. I realized it was all a dream, and sat up.
Then, I started typing this…
