[ Muse of the Moment: Drizzt ]

Another day for thinking, though I’m not sure why. I find myself reflecting back on things that shouldn’t have happened. People have different takes on how one should look at life. I have my own take on it, and I don’t try to press it on others, but I will share it here... Just because my thinking of the day seemed to want to expand on this.

For me, life is a highway of sorts. It’s got the center line that you must never cross, it’s got the boundary line, it’s got the shoulder, and it’s got the speed limit signs. Things happen around you as you travel along: people pass you, accidents, someone slows you down, etc.

In real life, you don’t cross the center line because, on the other side, are people coming straight at you. When you ‘cross the line’ in real life, the same thing happens. It’s bright yellow for a reason but still, there are some people who prefer not to pay attention.

Boundary lines... the edges of your reality. As long as you stay in your boundary lines, the little men in the white coats don’t have a reason to come see you. Skipping past that line is the surest way for someone to put in a call to the funny farm. Grab a net! We got one loose!

Everyone needs a shoulder. Flat tires, overheats, smoke pouring out of the engine... This is where you park for a bit while taking care of these things. Sometimes, you end up needing a tow truck... In real life, that shoulder is very real. We can’t always stand on our own all the time. Sometimes we just need a little help, a little cheering up, a smile, a hug, or a laugh. Sometimes, we feel like we need a complete mental overhaul. Don’t worry too much about these things. The only sure thing about the “highway of life” is that you ARE going to have periods where you’re traveling below the speed limit.

Friends are your directional signs and service stations. They help keep you on the right path and functioning. Don’t believe me? Try avoiding all of them for a while and see how far you get. You won’t get far on your own, trust me.

On my highway, the speed limit is “recommended” only. If you go through life too fast, you miss the important shit. Go too slow and everyone you know starts leaving you behind. Regardless, you have to take life at your own pace. If you feel like appreciating the scenery, then slow down. It never hurt anyone in this world to take a breather once in a while. You can always catch up when your friends slow down to do the same.

Just like in real life, there are accidents on this highway. Sometimes, it’s just a minor fender-bender and others, it’s a huge-assed twenty car pile-up. As long as you keep a book and a cell phone handy, you’ve got something to do. It won’t take *that* long to clear it up and you’ll be on your way again.

Never be afraid to go back somewhere you were in the past, either. Places change with time, and so do people. Revisiting the past can sometimes get you a new friend or reacquaint yourself with an old one. Even if you took a wrong turn somewhere along the way, it’s something new. It’s a place to mark on your map... and it might even be a good one.

Oh, and there aren’t any cops on this highway. Don’t you feel lucky? No one’s going to bust you for speeding or backing up the traffic... although, some of the other travelers might get irate.

Okay, so I suck at philosophy... sue me.

In other news, I revisited one of those places and reacquainted myself with an old friend. You never know how much you miss someone until they’re gone for a while and then come back. Six years is a long time... hell, that’s got some of my RL friends beat by a country mile. Even better is that we didn’t even have to take time to click again for writing together. We had some fun collabs in the past and we’re working on a new one now.

For those of you who happen to know about the ResEvil stuff I did with CO a while back, a third incarnation is coming up. This time... It’s Viz’s turn to see the world outside of Umbrella’s labs. I’ve even got some fanart of my cute little bioweapon series...
