Such busy days

I've been reading Gretchen Rubin's blog for a few years now. I really enjoy her thought process, and she strikes me as a positive person. One thing that I've noticed for myself is that the more positively I view things the better my outlook is overall. Right now I am reading her new book on habits, called Better Than Before. For me, habits really are the framework of my life. When I am out of sorts and feeling most dissatisfied with my life, it's usually because my habits are out of whack. She refers to many of the most commonly noted goals as "foundational habits." They are related to eating/drinking well, exercising more, watching less TV, etc. Many of my health and fitness goals are related to these foundational habits. Certainly when I lost weight before it was because I made changes to my foundational habits. In fact, I distinctly remember when all my good habits ended. It was at a Super Bowl party. I had reached my lowest adult weight, and that night when I went to the party I thought, "You know, I'm here. I've lost so much weight. I'm going to eat some of the things I've not touched in months." What I really lost that night was my habit of not eating badly, and not over-indulging. And as Gretchen notes in her book, once you've broken a habit it's much harder to start again the second time.
