God, it's so nice to be getting back into a normal routine! All the flurry surrounding the house remodels, writing and defending, and packing both the house and the lab for the move never seemed to end. Then came unpacking and the nearly endless parade of family visits that we were required to make. This past weekend was our first at home with no visitors - and we needed it. Friday night we attended a local author's event at the public library. Free food, readings, and we found some Christmas presents right off the bat. We went hiking at Fort Yargo State Park, and went ahead and signed up for a GA Park Pass on Saturday. Free entry to all the state parks! We should get lots of use out of that. Sunday we went walking on some of the trails in the State Botanical Gardens, which I had not previously visited. Everything is really lovely now, with the leaves just changing. And the sky was so blue! I got all the laundry and house work finished, including the ironing, menu planning, grocery shopping, and cooked ahead for the entire week.
We've been watching movies quite a bit lately, as our No Cable policy continues. It is incredible how much time we liberate by not watching TV. This week we've watched: Nacho Libre, The Gift, The Mission, and Bubba Ho-tep. And I've almost finished knitting my scarf. I think that tonight I'll work on my Christmas spreadsheet, and get our holiday plans resolved. That will put us way ahead. My reading is coming along nicely, I've almost finished my second Erskine Caldwell book, and I've begun reading one of the books we bought at the library. I finally gave up on the Carson McCullers biography, I just never got into it. I'll try something new this week at the library.
Working out is going pretty well also, we go at least 3 times a week and sometimes more. Since I've rejoined WeightWatchers I've lost 6 pounds, although this last week with Halloween I had a 0.4 pound gain. Work is also going smoothly, I am back into my routine of writing up my lists the day before and getting started quickly. I presented in lab meeting today and I actually had new data - go me!
My room for improvement is working on my post-doc issue - namely, where am I going to go? When am I leaving? And what will I be studying?
