Once Upon A Time:

A Storybook Romance, A Fairytale Wedding - 10/25/2015

(A Poem by a Pirate's Princess Bride to her devoted swashbuckling Captain)

Bonds of Love

I built a wall around my heart -
a castle moat; a Dragon’s keep...
to thwart attacks that tear apart.
The gate was high, the chasm deep.

I locked my heart inside a vault
where bandits couldn’t steal it...
tucked away from every harm,
where I could never feel it.

I was prepared to scorn the Bard,
the Merchant and the Farmer;
I was even steeled against
the Knight in Shining Armor.

The gentlemanly Pirate, though,
applied no tricks or pressure,
but offered up his heart instead,
to share its boundless treasure.

I can’t remember why I thought

A heart was such a hassle.
Not since a Pirate gave me his,
and made our home a castle.

So when I go to sleep this night,
and in the morning when I wake,
I trust my heart within your hands,
and rest assured you’ll keep it safe.

Now and Forever,
’til Death do us part,
You’ll always have
the key to my Heart.

Love recognizes no barriers.

It jumps hurdles, leaps fences,

and penetrates walls…

...full of hope.
