Hurricane and the school day

Sep 09, 2008 15:09

Today was our first day back at school since the storm hit last Monday. The kids where whinny, clingy and lazy. But hey, I don't expect special needs kids to react well to a major natural disaster.

The school has power now, but no food. They didn't serve any breakfast in the cafeteria so we cooked grits and biscuits in our room. (I have a FULL kitchen in my class...stove, oven, microwave, sink, fridge, freezer, etc)

They had to serve military MREs for lunch. I brought red beans and rice to cook for the kids again, but they LOVED those damned MREs! I even got a veggie MRE and it wasn't too bad.

I got my interim grades submitted in time, despite the storm delays. I actually left school before 3:00 today simply because my attention starved students worn me out and I just couldn't bear to stay after to do extra catch-up work. I'm now at home relaxing.

And where is Harrison you might ask? Why, I left him at daycare. Am I a bad mother? Probably. But I'm just not ready to have him hanging all over me. I'll go get him after I have some quiet time.
