Jesse's Wedding

I got back from Jesse's wedding about an hour ago and it was alot of fun. I was one of the groomsmens and Anthony was the best man. It was really fun having us three back together again. We were such good friends at MSOE.

First, on Friday night we had the rehearsal. The church where Danie and Jesse were going to get married at was called St. Patricks in Wadsworth, IL. I would say that this is probably considered a North suburb of Chicago (It was close to Gurnee). The church was amazing, it had a main sanctuary that could probably seat around 500, and looked out into the woods. The altar was in the center of the church with floor to ceiling glass behind it. The glass windows made up almost the entire back of the church behind the altar. The best part was probably that the church's cross was outside in the woods directly being the altar. They had taken whole timbers and steamed them and then bent them into shape to form the cross. The rehearsal itself didn't really take that long, just basically telling us where to stand, when to move, and who we were going to be walking down with. I was walking with Laurel who is also a good friend, so that was fun, because we can always make each other laugh.

After rehearsal, Jesse's parents had booked a bar, Grill 21, for appetizers and drinks. There was a slight roasting of Jesse during this time, and I learned that Jesse really was a daredevil in his young age, of 2 no less. Around 10 p.m., people started to wrap things up and head back to the hotel. The best part about this was that Jesse's parents had gotten hotel rooms for 2 night for the entire wedding party. I thanked them immensely for this gift.

The wedding was on Saturday at 1:00 P.M. Weather was perfect, probably a little hot, but overall good. We kept giving Jesse a hard time asking him if he was nervous or anything. Danie looked amazing in her wedding dress, Jesse definitely has a good looking wife. :) The service was a typical Catholic service, minus the mass (Which I was grateful for), because Jesse is Lutheran and Danie is Catholic. I also was able to hold back the tears during the wedding. I thought for sure I would cry. Jesse even told me at the reception that when he and Danie were laughing during the wedding it was because Jesse told Danie that he thought I was crying. They know me too, well.

After the wedding, the pictures began. Some of the pictures were taken at the church but most were taken at the Botanical Gardens of Chicago. These gardens are a very popular place to take pictures after weddings in Chicago. I counted over 10 other wedding parties while we were there. It was hot at the gardens but the pictures will probably be beautiful.

Next came the reception. The reception hall was gorgeous, and Jesse and Danie did a good job in getting a place that did everything for a set price. The cake, open bar, decorations and food were all included for one set price per person. The open bar was very nice. I saw alot more MSOE people there including Mark Gales, Andrew, and Jason among the names that I remember. Before dinner started I was asked to give the blessing, and then Jill and Anthony gave their customary speeches. The food was excellent, and the service was great.

Then the fun began with the dancing. Now since I didn't bring a date I had to keep asking people to dance with me. This is something that I don't mind, but there just wasn't alot of single women at the wedding. Somewhat disappointing but I got over it. I wish more people would have been dancing, but you take what you can get. I kept encouraging people to dance and so we would fill up the dance floor every once and awhile. Especially when the polka came on.

I then decided we had a surprise we had to make Jesse do. I asked the DJ to play a slow song and then had one of the ushers, Dierks, ask Danie to dance. I then told the DJ to make the next song "I've lost that loving feeling" from Top Gon. As the slow song ended we grabbed the mike and had Jesse serenade, with his "wingmen" help, Danie and steal her away from Dierks. Her face was priceless as we had Jesse and about 10 other guys on the floor. It was great and I am so glad I convinced Jesse to do it. I found out afterwards that this was one of Danie's favorite movies. Double Bonus.

The rest of the night was filled with dancing, good times, and Ted getting someone's phone number (Go Ted). It was a great celebration and a great beginning for Jesse and Danie as they begin their new life together.
I wish them the best of luck, the happiest of days, and love neverending.

Later,

Scott
