A few days ago, I met Gir-Monster at his place of employment; he decided on the way to our homes that we needed a treat. I thought this meant ice cream, so I say, "CAN WE GO TO BEST BUY TOO?!" which was his idea of a treat. Garren and I in Best Buy is a bad, bad combination. Bad. I almost ended up buying more RAM because they had a great deal on it. Instead, I came home with Twin Peaks: Season 2, Pan's Labyrinth (special edition), and Stomp the Yard. I believe this selection most appropriately displays my taste in television and movies.

While watching Stomp the Yard yesterday, I noticed something I hadn't before. When Duron and DJ are coming home from the "battle," they pass a billboard that says, "The World is Yours." High on the dancing and winning phat cash, Duron spray paints the Y out, so it says, "The World is Ours." I about freaked that the film was paying homage to La Haine (which, ironically, I almost bought). Then I realized even more similarities in those two scenes, as they pertain to outsiders being in an foreign territory, punishment for crossing the defined boundaries, etc. Suddenly Stomp the Yard became so much more than steppin' and stompin'. It was amazing and terribly frightening all at the same time. And what petrovnik does not know is that I fully intend on switching out Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles for Stomp the Yard at the next bad movie night.
