There are a select number of artists on my list who I commission (when they're available) to make drawings for my SesshRin group. I have their permission to use the drawings as profile pics for my group's page as well.
Of all the commissions I've ever requested
Kiss under rain is the most popular on the net. The people are not claiming the image to be their own but they are using it as profile pics, some or all part of it as profile skins, in banners, etc., Often times I see the picture manipulated with other colors and fonts, etc.,
Kagome-Inuyashkina always signs off all of her deviations so if someone had come across the image online, the can see the signature, right?
I don't want to start any trouble in the other Sessh/Rin fan clubs I belong to but I do want some credit to go to the artist. I'm aware that the proper thing to do is contact the artist and get permission before using the image but there are so many images that can be found online these days to which people don't know the source or sometimes the artist can not be reached or they speak a different language and there is a communication barrier.
I have had my share of being slapped on the wrist and at times even defriended because of a simple misunderstanding of not crediting, not informing, not contacting the artist before using the image (Not crediting has never been intentional! And I've learned much about using images!). I wonder if these people just don't know that they should somehow credit the source or mention that they're unaware of the source. Here's what I've been doing: politely leaving messages to credit Kagome-Inuyashkina and link her profile here on DA or simply linking her DA profile next to the image if I can.
How do you guys feel about this?
