I posted the following as a comment to their
recent mod post. Erm, YES, I LOVE LJ DRAMAS! ♥
Here we go! (Put behind cut because it has about 6000+ words EDIT: characters (SHUT UP, I WAS DEAD-TIRED, OK?). OTZ)
Hi, me and a friend of mine have thought about the recent issues on this community, and now I'm here to add our two cents.
1) I agree with all the points you listed above. I also want to thank you for creating/checking the tags - those are really, really wonderful - but I have a question regarding 5. No requesting of any licensed material.
I think the word "licensed" is a misleading word when we're talking about the entertainment industry, because the laws are different than it just being a matter of things getting licensed like with manga or anime. While with manga/anime, there are licensing/translation companies formed for this purpose, in which they have to purchase the rights to release something in their region. While with music or movies there is an international copyright issue, and it is up to the distribution company (either recording or cinematics) to decide whether or not to provide the material to markets outside of their region.
I don't know where that leaves us though, so technically, especially all released materials, should not be allowed. Personally I don't get this "licensed" thing, because NOTHING is "licensed" outside of Japan (especially music-wise). And nothing can be licensed outside of Japan, because KAT-TUN already has a music distribution company and it's up to their own company to distribute their material. Nothing is licensed, but everything is illegal in terms of sharing medias/pictures on the internet.
And I'm wondering what your reasons are behind imposing the rule. Is it to avoid legal issues? Or is it so we can purchase the material? That's what I'd like to know. If it's for the first reason, then you might as well ban everything; if it's for the second reason, then you should ban all released material for purchase.
Also, why doesn't anyone post bribes anymore when they're requesting? I thought it was common courtesy. :/ Maybe you should point this out as well.
2) Please allow me to complain about something that's been bugging me about this community for the longest time.
None of the things I'm about to say are meant to offend, please keep that in mind while reading. I apologize for causing possible hard feelings, but these issues have to be addressed, I see no other way around it.
Please tell people, especially newbies, that one should not mistake an open community for one's personal journal. I don't particularly like the thought of adding this rule suggestion to the community rules, because it sounds really stupid and should actually be common knowledge, but seeing some of the recent posts on this community, I'm not too sure anymore. While I think that introductions are fine, but posts that are only interesting for the minority of the community (aka. spams) should not be allowed. I'm going to be really blunt and refer to some of
sadaoru's posts.
Her most recent post inviting other members to discuss about whether or not Ueda was nervous during his solo performance on SC was sweet, but. While it's nice that she's generating discussion, she should consider providing more evidence than just one clip from one performance to base her post on. I also don't get the meaning of such a discussion on an open community, for it doesn't leave much room for a discussion anyway, since the answer would be either yes or no; besides we would never know, because we're only fans, and we can only speculate. I would like to take part in such discussions if I saw someone post it on their personal journal, but please, let me stress again, this is a community with 3600+ members, not a big, shared personal journal.
Moving on,
sadaoru's post showing the interior of her room on requests of others some while ago is not suitable for such a large community as well. May I ask how many people asked
sadaoru to post the pictures of her room? 10? 20? 30? Even if 1000 people asked her to do so, it's still only a minority compared to the number of actual members. Even if it didn't go against the rules, since the post was indeed KAT-TUN related, it was a spam. Because let's think about it for a while. What is the purpose of that post? Do any of the other members that did not ask to see the pictures benefit from it in any way? Is it art? Is it something you would want to save on your computer to look at it, maybe even print it out and hang it on your walls? Or is this just showing off? Sorry, but said post belongs in a personal journal, and not on a community.
It was not my intention to rule her out specifically, as she is also amongst others who have recently posted content which are not acceptable for an open community, but I'm especially referring to her because she is one of the moderators. If other members of the community think that even the moderators are spamming and misusing the community as their personal journal, something is definitely off.
But on another note, I loved
sadaoru's post about her trip to Japan! That was really intersting to read although it sounded very much like another personal journal entry. It was interesting nonetheless. I enjoyed the pictures she took, and I giggled at the Akame waterfall.
So I don't exactly know where to draw the line (I don't think there is a clear one), to be honest, but please, posts like "IT'S MY BIRTHDAY TODAY, TEEHEEHEE, CONGRATULATE ME!" or posts that are as senseless as just saying "I THINK XXX LOOKS HOT <3 *flails*!!!ONE!!!!!! BUT YYY DOESN'T LOOK AS GOOD. ): HELP ME, I THINK I'M FANTASIZING ABOUT ZZZ!!!!" need to stop. Fangirling is of course more than welcome, isn't it? But there is a limit to everything. If they have something to share they shall feel free to do so, but excessive talking about non-relevant issues are really irritating.
Dear moderators, please do something about them. Step in, use your awesome mod powers, show some professionalism, and prevent
kattunlove from sinking any lower. It is sad to know that people are leaving this place because it has become unbearable for them to stay in a community where spams are overriding actual useful posts.
Yeah. My two cents, plus those of a friend of mine. :] *winks*
I'm posting it here again because I want to remember the first time I posted a comment that broke LJ's comment word limit. LOL
