A 'Nakamaru Hairtimeline' would have been a billion times easier to put together :/
so. a long time ago in one of those twitter conversations that never go nowhere good, it was pointed out to me how hard it is to tell which haircut and haircolor Kame sported during which period of his life. Somehow, i got bullied chosen to be the person to organize an easy access timeline, and while i expected people to forget about it, a couple of weeks ago the issue was raised again and, well, this is the result.
so, basically, if you ever fervently wished you'd know exactly what kind of hair Kame had in July of 2004, or if you wanted to put together a historically accurate picspam, and had no way to know, now you kinda do, for here is: THE KAMENASHI HAIR TIMELINE PART I: 1999-2004
how the timeline works:
→ First column identifies the year and month the hairstyle is from
→
: identifies the column with the pictures
→
: identifies the column with the description of the hairstyle and color
→
: identifies the column with my own personal evaluation of hair color and style. which you are all welcome to ignore if you wish to do so :")
Things to take notice of:
→ this is an almost monthly report of the things Kame did to his hair since 1999. I say almost monthly because , while i tried to add as much information to this as i possibly could, some months i could not identify in my (hugeeeee) pic folder (and that does not mean that pics from that period don't exist. it just means i couldn't identify them. it's harder than it looks :/). Also, during some rare periods (as unbelievable as this sounds) his hair looked pretty much the same for more than a month.
→ while every month has only one (sometimes two) picture(s) to represent it's equivalent period, i guarantee you that the description wasn't based on that picture alone. Every month's description is the result of a excruciatingly long time sorting through and looking at an infinite stack of magazine scans, shop photos, paparazzi pics, etc.
→ if i say in the description that Kame's hair is light brown but in the picture it looks reddish, remember: scanning has a way of modifying the original colors of a picture (not to mention how lightening during the shoot of the picture also changes the colors). And again, if i settled on light brown, that is the result of the process i descrided on the previous item.
→ and last but not least: KAME IS THE FICKLEST CREATURE IN THE WORLD WHEN IT COMES TO HAIR. I do not kid. As much as i wanted to have 3 or 4 pictures in each of the tables of each year, the truth is that he really basically changes hairstyles once a month (and sometimes more than once a month sobbing.

By the end of 1999 (don't ask me about the time before that because it's a mess of very few pictures with no conclusive dates) Kame was sporting his Akihiko hair: short, very black (i'm assuming he had 'virgin' hair at this point) and with bangs. Also, don't let the pictures fool you; they are of the same cut, only styled differently.

january/february
By the beginning of 2000 his hair, while still very black, was just getting longer, tho not necessarily all that different from the style he'd been using during 1999 (Tho, if you ask me, even that bit longer looked cuter with his gigantic eyebrows).

march/april
Somewhere in march the hair stylists decided they were done with chibi Kame's hair virginity and it got dyed brown (sometimes it looked reddish in pictures). It also got cut shorter and lost the 'round' aspect from the very begining of the year.

That hair style and color continued through may...

...until sometime in july a whole chunk of it got cut, the color went to a much lighter shade of brown (that looked almost dark blonde on some pics) and signalized the beginning of chibi Kame's spiked hair phase.

That phase continued on all through august...

...suffered a bit of a change in september when it was getting visibly longer than the original haircut and got dyed a darker brown...

...and was already coming to an end around october, when it started missing it's 'spiky' quality (this is the phase where, in pictures, his hair looks only half spiky, cause it was getting too long to be as 'pointy' as the original cut).

By the end of that year his hair was all still brown but back to being round and face framing, similar to how he had it when the year started.

By the beginning of 2001 his hair was similar to how it looked in the end of 2000, despite it suffering a visible trim (the eyebrow trimming people, on the other hand, went back to slacking after a job well done in december)

Around march his hair grew in volume, and the color got changed to a darker hue of brown with some lighter brown highlights in there.

In may (just over a month after KAT-TUN was officially formed) his hair got dyed back to a lighter shade of brown again (and in some shoots, like the one i used here, stylists made it look all fluffy and fabulous <3).

In july his hair was back to dark brown and, well, all tall and full. His head looks kind of gigantic in the pictures from that particular period because, seriously, tall hair was tall (and this was not due to styling, because even wet it was still tall) XD

In august/september the color was still the same but the hair was cut to look less tall...

...then in october, it probably lost 4829384 layers and became shorter still/kind of flat. He also got a brand new set of discreet highlights, just like the ones he had previously in march.

When 2002 started his discreet highlights were gone (only the light brown stayed), his hair was longer and the very flat aspect also vanished. (this was also when the eyebrow people started working full time :Db)

In february his hair wasn't too different from how it looked in january, only it was getting visibly bigger/fuller/less flat. (In a month, yes. This was the first instance while putting this timeline together where i noticed that kame's hair really grows quicker than lightning. other instances would help me accept this, later).
On a sidenote, the two pictures i used here are from the same shoot. In one he looks like a total dork, in the other the idol potential shines through~ and jsodj T__T /gratuitous 'kame is fucking fabulous' moment

In march his hair was bigger/fluffier still and got dyed a much lighter shade than his previous tone. First time he went blond.

Sadly, that glorious blone didn't last too much (on Kame, cause Jin was also going blonde around this same period) and only a month later he went back to very light with reddish hues brown and also got a 'my-hair-is-shorter-but-still-very-tall' cut.
