Darkness is cheap, and Scrooge liked it.

I got up at 4:00 AM today to catch a bus to be at work by 6:00. I and my coworkers spent the day trying to protect the bottom line while not ruining Christmas. We'll do this until December 24. Midway through the day someone sent the link about the Wal-Mart employee who was trampled to death by shoppers. If I could add to my "I am thankful for" comments at dinner yesterday, I would say "not being brought up to think this holiday is sacred, or to feel so pressured to spend what I don't have that I'd be willing to commit murder."

Inevitably every year someone feels sorry for me because of how I was raised.

  • Never been trick-or-treating
  • Never given valentines to my classmates
  • Never celebrated my birthday with my family
  • Never ran to the living room on Christmas morning to see what was under the tree for me
  • Never disregarded the life of another in my quest for half-price.

  • Those of you on my f-list who look forward to this time of year, I beg you please, tell me what it's all about. Because from where I observe it's nothing but greed.
