Ooh la la...!

I've started this post four times now. I've never had such a difficult time collecting my thoughts, and starting a post.

I've put off posting for quite some time, just because the moment hasn't really been there. I'm content with my life, my work, and I'm blissfully happy in my relationship. I just didn't want to flaunt my happiness.

But this weekend was the best I've had in... longer than I can even remember. It was romantic, and fun, and absolutely amazing. You know there's something special in a relationship when you can have it start *horribly*, and turn it around to have the most amazing time.

He took me to the Island. Some friends of his from back east have a band, and they played at an Irish Pub in Victoria, so we went to see them play.

But, as I said, the weekend didn't start off roses and sunshine. My dad was doing some repairs on Chris's car, so we took mine. No sooner had we driven off the ferry first thing on Saturday morning, than a stupid light on my poor baby popped on... and after stopping at a light, she refused to move. Couldn't get it into neutral, couldn't push it off the road. After a frantic call to Volkswagen (on Canada Day, who'da thunk that they'd be closed?!) I was on the phone with a tow truck when one just happened by and stopped to get us off the road. Fabulous. He ended up towing us to the dealership, which wouldn't be open until Tuesday.

So we took a cab back to the hotel, and spent the rest of the day walking everywhere. Victoria on foot - not such a bad idea! It's really quite pretty. Although I did forget to find Starfish Glassworks. Next time.

Anyway, back to the band... Not only were they absolutely awesome people, but their music was fabulous and they put on a great show. I borrowed one of Chris's albums so I could put it on my iPod (now I just need to find the 'pod!)

So, after recovering from the previous nights *cough* minor intoxication, we set out to our final destination... Ucluelet.

Everyone kept telling me what a beautiful place it was, but I really had no idea what to expect. No matter what I had imagined, nothing could have prepared me for any of what I got.

We stopped every couple of hours, as he showed me places like Cathedral Grove and some other off-the-beaten-track attractions. I saw the Tree of Soles... and we ran around like children climbing on these huge rocks of a river, before sitting at the edge and dipping our feet in... don't ask me where it was, I haven't the foggiest. It was just awesome.

When we finally got to Ucluelet, he teased me a couple times, asking if I'd brought my tent, that we were going camping. Which I would've been fine with, had that been the plan, but we kept driving... and driving... and driving...

Tauca Lea By The Sea, the sign read.

We checked in and got our key... and opened the door to not only a 'room', but a stunningly beautiful apartment with candles everywhere, and filled with incredible fresh air. Outside, nothing but the sound of the waves... and on the balcony, overlooking the ocean, a two person Jacuzzi. ;)

In the morning, we got up and hopped in the jacuzzi after breakfast... at night, we hopped in the jacuzzi before bed, then curled up together in front of the fireplace. It was absolutely perfect.

We spent some time at Long Beach, and Tofino, and went on long walks together all over the place. I love his boyish charm, and his ability to be silly and make me laugh, without being immature. I've been reminded lately that age does not necessarily equate to maturity. And his balance is wonderful. He collected shells to give to me, as we waded up to our knees in the ocean at Long Beach. He found one "hat" type shell (i have no idea what its real name is) that had a hole in the top... he was going to toss it back, because of the hole, but I quickly snatched it up... and took the necklace I was wearing off its fine silk cord, and slipped the pretty shell onto it. It's still on. :) (I know. Nauseating. You're the one who wants to read this, not me!)

Anyway, all good things must come to an end, and we came back Tuesday afternoon, after picking up my car at the dealership where it had been fixed. I'm not used to taking time off. It's a novelty. And I appreciate it more than ever.

The evidence... *grin*
