Because when you haven't watched a show all season, obviously you catch the season finale.

Oh, Smallville. Just when I think I'm out, you pull me back in.

I've only been peripherally aware of the Smallville goings-on this season (a Smallville without Lex isn't Smallville to me) but last night when I got home Fiance just happened to have it on.

1) Now I know I'm out of the loop, but I have a real hard time buying Chloe stringing anyone along like that. The whole "I thought I was in love! Really!" part seemed especially OOC. That's Lana talk (and I say that as someone who always liked Lana). But hey, it's been a season and a half since I saw this show. Maybe she's the kind of person who would do that now. There could have been brain switching I've not been aware of.

2) That has to be Zod at the end. Proper Zod this time, too, not Zod-in-Lex's-body. Potentially good.

3) And now the bad: because everything always has to be one extreme or another with him, he's going to react to this trauma by going the full Kal-El, "Clark Kent is dead" route. Because that always ends well.

The whole episode, that last part especially, just reminded me how much this reality needs a Batman. Ollie's nice but he's not the same; in the comics Bruce is humanity's face to Clark, his mental yardstick of what the human race can be. (In the positive sense. Lex is humaity's negative face.) There's a reason Batman's the one Clark trusts to stop him if he gets out of control, and it's not just because Bruce is a cold enough bastard to do it. It's because he trusts Bruce's judgement. Batman, not any of the various god-like DC beings, is the one who checks Superman.

Now in the comics Lois and Jimmy also take on some of the Humanity's Symbolic Stand-in role, but on Smallville Lois isn't in that place yet and Jimmy's dead. He needs handsome, dashing, crazycakes Bruce Wayne to come in and be the best face of humanity, especially if he has to fight Zod.

That will get me watching Smallville again.

ETA: Supernatural S4 all nice and preordered. Soon my days of ninja-like spoiler dodging will be over!

And you know what came up in Amazon's little "Get Yourself a little something!" section when the Thanks For Your Order screen comes up? A big Rorschach poster and the 1:6 Rorschach figure. That is not fair, Amazon.

i love this show, comics, smallville
