I'm most of the way through Watchmen now and man, am I tired of hearing Laurie complain about Rorschach. And the thing is I understand where her neediness is coming from --- God knows that after living with Jon for twenty years anyone would be a little attention starved, and it's not like he would be any use at helping her relate to people --- but seriously Laurie, knock it off. It's making you come off as really catty.
Especially during the prison break. This is one of the things I'm glad they toned down for the movie because the whole "Why are we bothering rescuing Rorschach again?" would have come off badly. As it is, the whole exchange is really hard not to read as "Dan, do we have to rescue your friend of twenty years from the massive prison riot where he's surrounded by people who want to kill him? Can't we have sex again instead?" And I like Laurie!
I can't even chalk it up to Rorschach's current level of crazy because during the flashback on Mars she comments that she thought he was creepy even then, when she'd been in the same room as him for maybe five minutes and he was as close to normal as he gets. What is your deal, woman? Was that just you back projecting your current-day feelings? I can't imagine how the same girl who thought Comedian was awesome and wondered how Manhattan would be in bed could have possibly been freaked by Rorschach at his sanest and most lucid.
I am wishing they'd kept more of her swearing, though. That I like.
