Hello, mysterious writer for
rarepairfest! Some of these pairings are brand new loves and some are old, old favorites, so whatever you write will be greatly appreciated. I'm fine with any ratings, from G to Explicit. I've written out some general likes and dislikes (mostly cribbed from Yuletide, I admit) and written a bit on what I like about each pairing (with some related pairings grouped together to keep this from being all the words long.)
Spoilers abound below!
Likes: Hurt/Comfort. I love characters taking care of each other, especially characters who have a hard time putting their feelings into words. Bedside vigils, treating wounds, keeping watch over someone sleeping and recovering, all things that will make me melt. Nothing's better than seeing how characters feel based on how they treat each other without any words needing to be said.
Rescues! Love characters panicking when someone they love is in danger and moving Heaven and Hell to keep them safe. Fighting against impossible odds, Us against the world, all of that good stuff.
Finding your place. I love lonely, isolated people finding each other, where they belong and who they want to belong there with, even if it's not easily understood by outsiders.
Sacrifices. Few things make my chest go tight like a one character making a hard choice or giving something up for the sake of a loved one without having to be asked, especially if the second character never knows. (Of course this can go too far - uncalled for or just stupid sacrifices don't have nearly the same effect.:)
Time Travel shenanigans. Characters crossing their own timelines, warnings from future selves, going back trying to undo past mistakes, huge sucker for all of that.
Dislikes: Non-con, A/B/O, D/s verses. I think that's it. (Dubcon I'm fine with, especially the sex pollen/outside influence forcing things/maintain our cover type.)
Arrow
Oliver Queen/Slade Wilson
I've shipped these two more or less since the moment Slade first said his name.:) I'm a huge sucker for training fic, post infection-recovery fic (especially when it involves danger finding them before Slade's fully recovered and Ollie has to play the hero - say Fyer's men stumbling onto the hideout, really anything set in that gap period where it's just the two of them in each other's space trying not to get killed. And S2 and post-S2 fic brings that whole new level of antagonism! Here comes the hatesex and the stalking and the bad decisions. Maybe Slade uses seduction as a mind game and it gets deeper than he'd expected (or Oliver is the one trying it!) Or they can't keep their hands off each other despite the obvious problems with that. Slade kidnaps him and weird Stockholm things start happening. The season goes AU in some way - natural disaster, zombie plague, that earthquake machine going off - and Slade's plans go off the rails in unexpected ways. And there's always Waller sniffing around as a source of problems! No shortage of possibilities.
Oliver Queen/Shado/Slade Wilson
I just love the way these three fit together (even though Ollie and Slade both needed a good dose of Use Your Words in canon. Sigh.) Even when the tension was bubbling just beneath the surface you could see how much they cared about each other, before Ivo showed up and ruined everything. (Which he would, being one of comics great ruiners.) I'd love anything set in that period, and I'm also up for AUs where Ivo didn't kill her/she comes back to life/the League brings her back and everyone has to deal with it. I could also go for the idea that what Slade's been seeing isn't a hallucination and neither was the time Oliver saw her, especially considering how differently ghost!Shado appeared to both of them. (Perhaps affected by their mental states?) And there's always Not Really Dead fic - Nanda Parbat is apparently right over there, after all.
John Diggle/Floyd Lawton
Digshot! Does anyone call them Digshot? I'm not big on smush names as a rule but I would get that on a T shirt in a second.
This is a pairing MADE for “undercover in a [fill in the blank] club.” Squad missions gone bad, Floyd getting in over his head and Diggle having to extract him, enemies of Floyd's going after his kid and the two of them teaming up to wreck the bad guys, Floyd getting hurt on the job and showing up at Dig's door, bring all of it to me.:) I loved watching the respect grow between these two, to the point where Diggle goes from wanting to outright murdering Floyd to freeing him in the S2 finale and giving him a weapon.
Oliver Queen/Sebastian Blood
If someone had told me before S2 I would wind up teary eyed over Sebastian Blood of all people....
I love how Sebastian and Oliver both have the same goal - I will save my city - and how it's that goal and the methods they use to attain it that put them on different sides. Sebastian really believes in what he says and even though he clearly enjoys a lot of the whole skull mask blood cult thing he has going on he's doing it deep down to save Starling. One of my favorite parts of S2 was the tentative friendship between the two of them with neither knowing who the other really was. And even after Oliver finds out he still gives Sebastian a chance! Sebastian turned against Slade and gave Oliver the case! I ate up every second of that. Identity porn is a big aspect of this pairing for me, with Sebastian sleeping with Oliver without knowing he's the Arrow, and likewise for Ollie (or Sebastian sleeping with the Arrow, not knowing the man in the hood is his friend Ollie, and Oliver definitely not wanting him to find out.) The mayoral race puts even extra “we shouldn't do this” tension to the whole thing, as does Sebastian being (metaphorically) in bed with Slade without knowing Slade's connection to Ollie. The whole thing is just a glorious mess. (I'm not adverse to Sebastian being actually in bed with Slade, btw, if that's the way the story winds up rolling, as long Oliver is tangled up in everything.) I am also ALL IN for fixit fic! Maybe Sebastian was only mostly dead and he and Ollie have to deal with each other with all their cards on the table! Hit Sebastian with amnesia so he doesn't remember being the man in the skull mask but Ollie still does! Go AU, with some disaster hitting Starling and it throws Sebastian and the Arrow closer together, or have them meet during S1 when Ollie is still solving his problems with murder! I just love these two being in each other's orbit.
Supernatural
Castiel/Jo Harvelle
Castiel/Jo Harvelle/Dean Winchester
I love Jo. There can never be enough Abandon All Hope AUs to fill the Harvelle-sized hole in my heart. Perhaps Cas and Jo (or Cas, Jo & Dean!) were the only survivors of that debacle. Or maybe the Titanic scheme had a ripple effect, or Jo was hiding the secret that she wasn't quite human and they meet back with her in Purgatory. Osiris' nonsense had some kind of lingering effect, and now Jo's a unmoored spirit. Or Cas meets with her in Heaven during the War, a secret port in his storm, and when the Leviathan happens she breaks loose, finds Dean and fixes things. Cas stumbles over someone who looks just like Jo but obviously can't really be her, and when he (or he and Dean) investigate they just get in deeper. A Djinn dream that doesn't stay a dream! Or some other scenario, just as long as Jo gets to evade her fate and gets an angel (or an angel/hunter combo) in the bargain.
Castiel/Jimmy Novak/Dean Winchester
Jimmy. Jimmy and Cas are literally tangled up in each other and then Dean gets thrown into that like a lit match into gasoline. I like a Jimmy who's a little resentful and snarky but not overwhelmed by it, just trying to make the best of things. Maybe he and Cas are time sharing for reasons, or they're split apart, or Jimmy is steering the ship. I'd like all three of them to have relationships with each other; ie, not ones where Jimmy is an unwelcome imposition to Dean/Cas or a problem to be solved, but where they're all in this mess together. Basically I want Jimmy to have at least that little bit of happiness.
Lisa Braeden/Castiel/Dean Winchester
I love Lisa, and I loved her with Dean. There can never be enough S6 AUs where things go differently (Cas never allies with Crowley, or he gets injured/captured and has no where else to go, or something happens to Ben and they all have to team up) and they manage to wide up together. Obviously this is probably easiest to do in that year gap or in S6, but I'm all for later fix-its! Maybe when Cas mindwiped her and Ben he didn't do exactly as he was told, or the memories start coming back when the Leviathans kill him and he can't maintain it. Or Endverse fic! Even though it probably won't have a happy ending I'd love to see Ben and Lisa in that verse.
Castiel/Anna Milton/Dean Winchester
Anna and Cas' relationship is one of my favorite parts of S4, especially all the little ways she pushed him and encouraged him to rebel. I would love AUs of When The Levee Breaks where Cas makes a different choice or Song Remains The Same where...well, where Cas makes different choices.:) Or Anna, or Dean, anything that might change Anna's fate. And there are lots of AU opportunities, like her sticking around after Head Of A Pin or things unfolding differently in Heaven and Hell or any point along the way of S4-S5. Maybe Michael didn't actually kill her but imprisoned her/sent her to Hell/sent her to Purgatory/whatever else strikes your fancy. An early S4 set story where something goes wrong during a Seal mission and Cas needs some rescuing, especially if her memories aren't completely awake yet. Or some quiet moment between disasters, where they all know they shouldn't be doing this but do anyway.
Jimmy Novak/Jo Harvelle
Did I mention how much I love Jimmy? And Jo? Because I love them a lot. I love the idea of the two characters probably most screwed over by canon finding a second chance with each other, especially since these two bring such interesting complications. Jo knew and liked Cas, while Jimmy has every reason not to think much of him; there's the age difference, and that Jimmy almost certainly still considers himself married whether or not he's technically alive anymore. Maybe they meet in Heaven and decide to wreck the place, or in some kind of in between and have to work together to escape. Or they both find themselves alive again and have to figure out what's going on. Jo and Jimmy are both brave and good and give all to save people they love and I'd love to watch them slowly grow to recognize that in each other. Especially if Jo teaches Jimmy to shoot and hunt while they do.:)
Harry Potter
Ginny Weasley/Blaise Zabini
Blaise absolutely had a thing for Ginny Weasley, I don't care how hard he denied it.:) I love the idea of these two sneaking around after Harry breaks things off with Ginny, and how they both would want to keep it all a secret and would never ever admit it was anything serious. Maybe Blaise was spying on his House (because he may be Slytherin but he's not a DE/he knows that if Voldemort loses again Slytherins might have problems and wants to make himself look good/he wants to impress Ginny and get her to trust him, even if he can't admit to himself why/some Slytherin mix of all of that. Or thing go differently in Book 7 and the two of them are forced on the run, or Voldemort wins and Blaise has to think quick to keep her alive. Maybe something happens to his mother and they have to work under the radar to save her. Or they're just abusing the Room of Requirement and someone finds out.:) I'm also open to them meeting back up years later, when everything that seemed so all-encompassing at school just isn't as important anymore. (Just please don't make Harry the bad guy in that scenario.)
Draco Malfoy/Charlie Weasley
Look, I'm not gonna lie: this pairing is almost entirely pun based around Draco's name. Something in me can't let go of a character described as preferring to study dragons to marrying and having children being drawn to a character literally named Draco. But names aside - and potential related complications, like the idea that Draco's name might be more than just another pureblood affectation - the dynamic between these two really is potentially fascinating. Charlie has a lot of freedom - he got to choose his career, he travels all over the world, there's no real pressure on him to get married and continue the Weasley name, not with all the other Weasleys - that it's such a contrast to Draco whose life has been bound up in expectation. It's not hard to imagine Draco being drawn to that, even feeling a little envy. Maybe there's a chance meeting that develops into something more, or Draco finds himself needing something dragon related (or Scorpius does, depending on when it's set.) Or perhaps Draco's still bothered by his failures in Magical Creatures class and decides that's a weak point he doesn't need to live with any more. There's something a little sad and sweet about the idea of these two, a connection forged over something as potentially random as a name.
Haven
Dwight Hendrickson/Nathan Wuornos, Dwight Hendrickson/Garland Wuornos, Audrey Parker/Dwight Hendrickson, Duke Crocker/Audrey Parker/Nathan Wuornos/Dwight Hendrickson, Duke Crocker/Dwight Hendrickson
Not going to go into the individual pairings for Haven because I'd just be saying the same thing: I love Dwight. Little hearts around his name and everything. I'm up for just about anything pairs Dwight with Audrey, with Nathan, Duke, or all three of them together (and if the story is set pre-canon or S1, all for Garland/Dwight.) Maybe a story about Dwight and Garland having had something back while Dwight was his fixer (especially if that creates problems with a current relationship with Audrey and/or Duke and/or Nathan!) Have someone's Trouble create a nasty dose of sex pollen, or have Dwight catch a bullet and the good guys have to get to him before the villains. Dwight's all but made for hurt/comfort and Audrey, Nathan and Duke would all be so gloriously awkward about it in each in their own ways. Maybe Dwight and whoever just have a bad idea one night and then keep having it.
Babylon 5
Marcus Cole/Stephen Franklin
They were fake married in canon! It's already all there! I loved that little arc and have always wished it went on longer, so I will adore any more stories about their forays into espionage and married life.:) Make it last longer, end differently, strand them on some terrible outpost, have them have to be married in front of people, just have fun with that whole idea. Or maybe a fic with Stephen fixing Marcus up after one of his many fights, Marcus having to bodyguard for Stephen (almost certainly over Stephen's objections!), or fix-it for Marcus' death. (I know JMS wrote his own fix-it for that but...yeah.) Marcus' exuberance works so well paired with Stephen's tightly wound, always annoyed self, mostly because beneath that they're so alike: both disciplined, driven, haunted by family trauma and willing to sacrifice their health and well-being to protect others and do what they think is right.
Marcus Cole/Neroon
Watching Neroon grow and learn to respect Marcus was a joy. So much of what we know of the personal and romantic life comes from Delenn and because of that through the filter of the religious caste - I'd love to see how sex and romance differed for the warriors, whether they had the same rituals or made their own. Is sex more casual for them because they confront their mortality more than the others, or does that make choosing a partner even more important? Neroon says at the end that his caste may have been warrior but his heart was religious - did knowing Marcus have anything to do with that? How would he react if he and Marcus were marooned somewhere and had to depend on each other? Or if Marcus was wounded by someone else's hand and was at his mercy (especially early on?) They're both warriors leading dangerous lives and I'd love to see the spotlight on them.
Heroes
Peter Petrelli/Claude Rains
If someone could scientifically design a character exactly for me to get all fannish about, the result would probably just be Claude. Peter/Claude is one of my favorite pairing types, the damaged cynic paired with the stubborn idealist. We know from the flashbacks Claude used to be a man who believed and who risked himself to help others, the partner who believed that Noah really was the man we saw him eventually become (even if it didn't happen fast enough to do Claude much good,) and meeting Peter woke some of that back up. By the time he was calling Peter “friend” and saying he thought Peter was mankind's maximum potential his motives for training Peter had clearly moved far beyond just preventing the explosion and I loved watching that happen. I would love something set in the 5 Years Gone-verse; it's one of my favorite episodes and we have no idea what happened to Claude in that timeline. And if that's not your bag, Claude's the perfect character to have just pop up and reveal he's been there the whole time! Go AU after S1, or even right after Claude leaves. Have the Company do evil, Company things to one or both of them. Have Noah try to find Claude (for good reasons, even!) and Peter jump to the worst conclusion. And there's always training fic, which I love beyond reason. Can never go wrong with training fic. (Or with Claude abusing his invisibility. Y'know, for justice. Or smut! And justice!)
Adam Monroe/Hiro Nakamura
It seemed like right after I accepted Claude was probably not secretly skulking invisibly in corners waiting to pop back up Adam showed up and it was perfect timing, because Adam Monroe and his feudal adventures with Hiro were exactly my kind of thing. (And then of course canon happened, because Heroes was determined to be the show were I couldn't have nice things./o\) I loved that arc, with Hiro becoming the Kensei he'd grown up idolizing and Adam getting involved in the heroing despite himself, especially the joy the two of them took in exploring and exploiting their powers. (Powers kink is a big plus with these two.) I hated hated hated the love triangle (but liked Yaeko herself!) so fix-its for that would be greatly appreciated. More than anything I'd love redemption fic, where Adam can get over himself and fight for something bigger - maybe a 5 Years Gone fic (we don't know what happened him there either, IIRC), or something where Hiro prevents Arthur from getting to him. Darkness is fine with these two - expected really, for a while he and Hiro were actively making each other worse people - but I'd like the story to end with at least the potential for them both being on the side of the angels down the road.
Anon is always on, so feel free to comment if you have any questions/concerns/what have you. And thank you!
