Knit Agita.

Having finished the shipwreck shawl, I wanted to do something less mentally taxing. One of my best and oldest friends just had a daughter. I want to make something for her.

I love a knitting project where you make something simple out of a really special yarn. That kind of knitting elevates everything all the way around. My favorite nyc yarn shop just introduced a fingering weight pima cotton, with suggested patterns. I ordered a few skeins of this gorgeous cotton in an off-white to use with a simple (looking) pattern for an infant dress. The yarn came in the other day. It's beautiful and soft and smells so good. I cast on this little tiny dress that night, figuring it would be a quick and simple knit while watching TV. I figured I'd have it knocked out in a week, tops.

OMG. This little dress is wiping the floor with me. The 4 skeins and 3000+ beads of the shipwreck shawl were not this frustrating by half. If this weren't a time-sensitive gift, I would have tossed it across the room by now.

The bodice is a linen stitch, with alternating knit or purls and slipped stitches, moving the working yarn to the front or the back depending which side you're on. It creates a lovely homespun fabric if you do it right, but even the slightest mistake is glaring. You can not fudge. I've frogged back to the cast on twice so far. It's hard to tink it back and not get the slipped stitches messed up with the worked stitches, although I've gotten better at that. At least the skirt is just stockinette, but arrrrrgh the top portion is not fun.

Yet another effort that will be beautiful when it's done. I want to thread crochet some tiny fairy tale motifs and stitch them to the front.

And besides, this beeble is all that and a bag of chips to me. Worth any and all knit drama.
