I believe that I have sulked long enough. It is not in my nature to be idle. Therefore, I am embarking on a new project: improvements to the Welcome Center. Miss Penny, if I may be permitted to call upon you later today, I would like to discuss these improvements.

That's great! Any time is fine.

What kind of improvements are you thinking about? I know there's a lot that could be better than it is...

The building, for one thing. It is very nice, but it lacks a certain elegance. And we should hold parties to celebrate the arrival of new residents. Where I am from, it is customary to hold at least a dinner party for a new arrival. Oh! And we should offer classes to teach people how to use their Network devices, should they come from a time where such things are not common.

Elegance? ...Parties?

They're not bad ideas, really! I'm just not sure how it'll work. The Center's kind of operating on a limited budget, you know? But classes are definitely a good idea, and maybe we could make the Center a little nicer if we did some fundraising?

[ooc: I stalked one of Emma's aggressive welcomings. XD That was brilliant.]

Nothing is impossible with a little determination and cleverness. Just leave it to me. You would probably be better suited to handling the classes, though. I fear that I am still learning how to use this device myself.

It's really cool that you're so into helping, Emma Miss Woodhouse. You really don't need to, but thank you.

I'm death to technology and I can't use code very well or do anything neat with the network thing. Classes would be great, though, so I'll ask around and see if anyone a little more tech-savvy wants to do that.

What else should I do? Sit around and let the ticking drive me mad? Much better to put my skills to use.

Actually, Miss Penny, I believe I know just the person.

Emma's ambition scares Penny greatly. ^_^ horrible_penny January 19 2010, 16:03:51 UTC
You've got a point there. Sitting around and going crazy doesn't really help anyone.

You do? Really?

His name is Connor Temple. He has been teaching me to use this device. I fear I am not adequate testament to his skills, but I can certainly attest to his patience as a teacher. And really, isn't that the most important thing?

Oh, Connor... sure, I know him a little. And patience is definitely good. He wouldn't mind, though? Teaching anything can take up a lot of time.

He doesn't mind a bit. He is quite at our disposal.

Great! You're really into this, aren't you?

Is there anything you want me to do?

When my interest is piqued, no one's enthusiasm could be greater.

Our first order of business is to organize the welcoming gifts. They need to be more welcoming.

Gifts? What's not welcoming about things now?

Oh, they are not not welcoming, but they could be more welcoming! Remember how hard it is to first discover that you have been ripped from everything you have ever known and loved.

It really is hard, but are presents really the best way to make people feel better? Just letting them know that there's someplace here where they can be safe and listened to seems more important than giving things out.

But maybe you're right.

Feeling safe and listened to is very important, yes, but people also need material things when settling into a new place. Money, food, the means to acquire suitable clothing, and yes, perhaps a little something pretty to cheer the spirits. Not everyone will want to confide in near strangers, after all.
