serendipity

Every year, spouse and I make a special trip to the local Farmer's Market Christmas Bazaar. It sets up in a sprawling warehouse-type building spreading out into three long rooms and features tables heaped with every home-grown, home-made iem imaginable. I love the creative energy that permeates the space.

Over our time here, though, a certain sameness to what's offered has become the norm. There are the ever-present crocheted afghans, knitted and sewn aprons and potholders, oil and watercolor pictures, real and fake flowers, baked goods of every scrumptuosity (spouse rarely makes it beyond this point,) wooden and glass ornaments, pottery, and tote bags large and small. I went fully intending to buy, but there was little either visually pleasing or different enough to convince me I just had to have it. Nothing much stood out. It was easy to admire and smile and keep going.

What I eventually bought were these:

The first is a bracelet made of magnetic hematite. You can unwind it and reshape it into a necklace if you prefer. It literally sticks together - no clasps needed! Is that cool or what? The novelty factor kicked in.

My face is very sensitive, which rules out most soap out there. I'd heard about goat's milk soap and even considered ordering it from a catalog, but there it was, and in one of my favorite scents - lavender with a vanilla chaser. I leaped on it.

.

And then...I was looking for a Thomas the Train lap quilt, but what caught my eye was this one with sky blue fleece and big gold Tinkerbelles. Sky blue! Tinkerbelles! And it was only 15 bucks! I have no idea what I'm going to do with it, but I know I'll be able to find a taker. It's that darned cute:

So, in the end, what attracted me to all those things was their hook. One was new and different, something I'd never seen before (plus the lady did a great job of marketing it.) One was something I was already interested in, but it hadn't as yet come into my orbit. And the last was pure chance, but it was something I just couldn't resist.

You just never know.
