Friday round-up

Oct 23, 2009 10:40

We finally took our hummingbird feeders down this week. It had become apparent the only ones still enjoying our largesse were bees. I don't mind that, but there are plenty of other late flowers for them to suck on, so down they came. We wish our babies godspeed on their long trek south.

I also dug up all remaining herbs from my pitiful little herb garden, repotted them and brought them inside. They're safely ensconced in the empty bird nursery with their own grow light. I even brought in the so-called perennials. In the past, whenever I left them out, they struggled and often didn't make it through the winter. I swear as I dug up the others they were yelling, "Take us, too!" and I didn't have the heart to leave them behind. What the heck. It was just a little extra effort, and they look quite comfortable in there. Come spring, I'll either replant them or take them with us if we relocate.

We hired an independent appraiser to give us her best estimate as to our land and house's worth. It came in higher than we expected. Whether or not the market will bear that is a whole nother thing. Still, it's nice to have a ballpark figure to work with.

A friend of mine asked me to tag along on a recent ghost hunt, which was very cool. Another lady and I acted as the group sensitives, going from room to room to see what we picked up. The other lady's gift is formidable, while mine is still in its self-conscious infancy, but together we picked up quite a bit! A number of pictures showed orbs, including one directly behind me and one perched near my right arm (which might account for the violent shivers and goose bumps that hit me during that session.) During the reveal, the owners verified much of what we had encountered. I'm looking forward to doing it again.

Blockbuster just went belly up here, so we were forced to sign up for Netflix if we ever want to rent movies again. Arrg! I have resisted much of what the Internet has to offer, mainly because we're still panting along in the dust with dial-up, but I so resent it when events conspire to make it impossible to function any other way. Why does progress always come with an evil downside?

One final note: the wooly bears are out! I hate driving this time of year, because I get so distracted by their fuzzy little butts trying desperately to cross the road. I wish I could run up and down the highway moving them out of harm's way. All I can realistically do is send them mental tailwinds and pray they make it. And weave like crazy to avoid them! I can only imagine what the people behind me are thinking.

Wishing everyone a great weekend. May fall come gently to you all :)
