At long last I have proof! Paris drive tourists into
madness. Apparently, some Japanese tourists are visiting Paris and then, due to the major disconnect between their expectations of the city and the reality of Paris, they are having psychological issues. I can't say that I blame them, as I found the city to be a bit overrated as a tourist stop. There are some beautiful places and the art and architecture cannot be denied. However, the smell within the city limits is horrible (the smell of raw sewage cannot be covered up with all the flower shops in the world) and the people are quite rude (that's not an exageration or unfounded stereotype).
It's still worth a visit, but I can't say I'm surprised.
