Okay, you know that commercial for the iPhone apps that highlights the app called Loopt? It's the second one in the list here. Steen and I just saw it for the first time on tv last night, and we're both alarmed. Checking up on your friends' locations based on their phone is not okay with either of us, permission or no. As Steen pointed out, the vast majority of women who are raped and sexually assaulted are victims of acquaintances. Like, people who might HAVE YOUR IPHONE NUMBER.

I'm not entirely sure how the app works, but the idea that anyone could search for me with a freaking app from Apple (on google maps, no less!) just by using my cell phone signal is TERRIFYING. I hope Apple has thought this through very carefully and it's much more limited than I imagine. Because, God. This is Big Brotherish to the extreme.
