Chii - Dress Diary #1

So, I've been planning a Chii costume with my sister.

I'm going to be Chii, while Nick will be Freya.

Here's what I have so far:

Please note the totally awesome wrinkles that are completely impervious to ironing. Grr.. One the other hand, the fabric was $1 a yard at Walmart, so I can't complain too much.
Also note that my dress dummy has a larger bust than I do and a smaller waist.

Anyways, that bodice was made from a modified commercial pattern. Yes, there will be sleeves, but the ruffle bits are still in progress. I'm not happy with the front skirt. Silly me made the pattern based off of squares. I have no idea what possessed me to do this. The pleating is all crapped up as well. I think I can save it by re-pleating. ::Sigh:: I'm pretty happy with the bodice, though. I have to add sleeves, boning and lining and it's done. Woo hoo!

Without the crappy front skirt. Barring adding boning or wires, I don't think there is much I can do to make this poofier and keep with the original pic. Ideas? I do have many more yards of this stuff.

Back view. I think I'm going to add a large bow. Yes, it's all squares again. No, I have no idea what I was thinking. I think that the underskirt will add a bit more poof. Maybe. Damnit, I should have added more fabric to the skirt. Oh well.

I have learned from this project that satin is unforgiving. If it has a flaw, the satin just highlights it. My next cosplay outfit is planned with linen and cotton.
