“I can’t believe this. What. Are you serious, Jinki?” Kibum groaned, feeling uneasy as he glanced at Dongwoon, who was watching him intently while he was yelling into the phone. “Are you telling me that Jonghyun is out with Sekyung and the 2min couple went for a date, leaving you home alone WITH a fever?!”

“… (Coughs)… I’m sorry (coughs) for disturbing your date (coughs) Kibummie…” Jinki sounded so much like a dying person and Kibum couldn’t help biting his lower lip.

“Listen, I’ll be home in ten minutes. Keep yourself warm and drink lots of water - don’t die, okay.”  The umma of the group hung up the call and sighed as he looked into Dongwoon’s eyes.

“Don’t have to explain, I got it.” Dongwoon grinned. “We’re here in the first place just because I got ditched by my date and you were free to keep me company, remember?”

Kibum let out a chuckle. “True that. I’ll call you later, Dongwoon-ah!”

“Sure. Tell hyung I hope he gets well soon!” Dongwoon waved at the already running Key.

Kibum didn’t know whether to be happy or worried. He had originally planned to have a romantic date with Jinki for Valentine’s because he wanted to confess his undying love for the sangtae leader. But the older man had informed him three days in advance that he would have full schedule on 14 February, which was why Kibum had said ‘ok’ when Dongwoon asked him out because the latter was ditched.

As he promised, he got to the dorm in less than ten minutes and unlocked the door. He quickly took off his shoes before storming into the living room.

“Jinki hyung?” He called, as he saw no sign of a person in the living room.

There was no reply but a heaving sound was heard from the bathroom. Worried, Kibum hastily ran towards the source of the voice. He pushed the door slightly and was met with the sight of Jinki puking his guts out.

“Hyung!!” Kibum cried as he rushed towards Jinki’s side, patting his back. The smell was rather awful but he didn’t care - his heart was beating too fast for comfort. Jinki was not lying when he said he was feeling unwell!

“Key.” Jinki panted as he rested on the toilet seat - he was sweating all over and shivering, his eyes watery. “… I don’t feel…”

“You’ll be okay hyung. Come, let’s clean you up.” Kibum flushed the toilet before helping Jinki up to drag him towards the sink. He filled the glass with a cup of water and handed it to Jinki so the leader could rinse his mouth. Jinki did just that while the Kibum wiped Jinki’s face with wet tissues.

Jinki was leaning heavily on Kibum - and even through the fabrics of their clothes Kibum could feel the leader’s high temperature. “I’ll bring you to the hospital, hyung-“

“No- not hospitals.” Jinki refused.

“But you’re having high fever and-“

“Please. Kibummie.” Jinki groaned. His head was nuzzled into Kibum’s shoulder and the younger couldn’t help blushing at the gesture. “I hate hospitals…”

“O-Okay… Let’s get you changed into a dry set of clothes then.” Kibum gulped as he gathered his breaths and helped Jinki walk towards their shared bedroom. The leader was still wobbly but at least he made an attempt to walk.

Kibum blushed into a darker shade of red as he helped Jinki change into a new set of clothes. Although he had already seen all Shinee members naked before (well, they have been to public baths or swimming pool together, what do you expect?), it didn’t help that Jinki was all sweaty and … fragile-looking at the moment. Kibum watched intently as a droplet of perspiration rolled down Jinki’s chest towards his abs. Oh, snap out of it, Kibum, what are you thinking about?

“K-Key.” Jinki mumbled. “Water.”

“Coming right up, hyung.” Kibum helped Jinki lied down on the bed before covering him with a comforter. He placed a thermometer on Jinki’s lips - the older man simply opened up his mouth obediently to measure his temperature. “I’ll be back with water.”

Jinki’s watery eyes caught sight of Kibum’s back view. Jinki was really glad he wasn’t alone when he’s sick like this. He felt sore all over and his head was throbbing, but the thought of how Kibum is now by his side was making him feel a lot better.

He had wanted to plan a surprise for Kibum for Valentine’s. He had succeeded in convincing Manager Hyung to allow him to push all his schedules forward so he could keep Valentine’s Day free for him. He had planned to confess about his feelings for the diva, but fate seemed to hate him a lot because he was suddenly down with a cold.

“This is what you get for overworking yourself. Really hyung, I admire you a lot but don’t push yourself too hard. Your health is important too.” Key nagged as he took the thermometer and sees the temperature. “39.1?! Oh God, hyung, your fever is so high!”

Kibum helped Jinki up to drink some water before he placed a damp towel on the leader’s forehead.

“I’m going to cook some porridge. You will eat it, and then take some medicine and sleep. Arasso?”

“But, Kib-“

“No buts!”

Kibum’s gaze was so stern and burning with concern that Jinki couldn’t help but stay silent. He eyed the umma figure exiting the room again, feeling a pang of loneliness. Now he understood why Taemin gets clingy whenever he has a fever.

Now that he was left all alone in his room, Jinki couldn’t do anything but to stare at nothing. His head was really heavy but there was a nagging thought - where did he put Kibum’s present?

His eyes fell on the bag he had placed next to the cabinet few hours ago. Right, he reached home after collecting the gift from the store. He didn’t bring a shawl then, didn’t expect it to snow. Perhaps that was why he caught a cold.

Sighing, Jinki got up unsteadily and stepped towards his bag. And then -

CRASH!!!!!!!!!!

“JINKI HYUNG?!”

The door burst open, revealing a panicked Kibum wearing the apron. His feline eyes widened at the sight of Jinki trying to stand up - the leader had obviously fallen after tripping over nothing.

“Did you get hurt anywhere? Oh, I swear to God, stop doing this to me!” Kibum yelled as he crouched down and helped Jinki up. The leader was wearing a goofy smile, and instead of saying sorry, he tugged Kibum’s hand until the latter fell on him.

“What the?!”

“Happy (cough) Valentine’s Day!”

Kibum blinked, too surprised to say anything.

In front of him was a box with a pair of couple rings. The smaller one had “Always Jinki’s” engraved to it and the bigger one said, “Forever Kibum’s”.

“I (coughs) wanted to prepare something (coughs) more special.” Jinki shut his eyes as he coughed, feeling slight pain in his chest from the pressure. “But I got sick and I’m sor-“

Kibum’s lips on his abruptly cut his line.

“Happy Valentine’s Day too. Now let’s get you back onto the bed so I can continue cooking your porridge.” Kibum nonchalantly stood up and pulled Jinki up to his feet. Jinki stared at him sadly; Kibum didn’t even take his gift from his hand!

Jinki was again tucked under the comforter - the box with rings was still clutched in his right hand. Kibum was about to leave the room again when he suddenly turned towards the sulking Jinki and showed his right hand.

“What?” Jinki asked, annoyed.

“Put the ring on, dumbass.” Kibum stated with blushing cheeks.

Jinki was left speechless but then burst out into fits of giggling and coughing - before he reached forward and placed Kibum’s rings into his ring finger.

“You are so unromantic, confessing when you’re sick and all.” Kibum grumbled, but he was smiling anyway. “You’re lucky I’ve been in love with such dork for a while now.”

Jinki stared at Kibum dumbly before laughing again. “I (cough) love you too!”

And so Kibum’s first Valentine’s with Jinki was spent in Jinki’s bedroom, nursing the leader back to health.

When the rest of the Shinee boys came back, they smiled foolishly at the sight of the group’s umma sleeping in their clumsy leader’s arms.

What a happy (cough) Valentine’s indeed.
