Something was very, very wrong.
Kibum was usually a diva, but Jinki thinks that today the young diva was not being just diva. If the sangtae leader weren’t helplessly in love with the younger, he would probably classify Kibum’s nagging and whining to be under ‘bitch fit’ category.
“Jinki! Wake up already, we’re going to be late for recording!”
“Jinki! How many times must I remind you NOT to throw your clothes on the floor?!”
“Jinki! Why are you taking so long in the bathroom?!”
“Jinki! Go and wake the maknae up!”
“Jinki! Yah, why aren’t you eating breakfast!”
“Jinki!”
Jinki sighed as he rubbed his temple in frustration. Ignoring the fact that Kibum was scolding Jinki without even calling him “hyung”, it was a bit too much for a start of his birthday. This wasn’t he wanted his morning to be - Kibum was being very grumpy and Jinki couldn’t help but feel irritated at the younger boy.
Usually, by the time Jinki wakes up Kibum would still be in his arms, smiling brightly at him before pecking his cheeks saying sweet “good morning”. The younger would then rub Jinki’s arm with affection, telling the older to go have a quick shower while he prepares breakfast. Once Jinki steps out of the bathroom, Kibum would smile sweetly again, saying that breakfast is almost ready and ask the leader to go wake the rest of the household up.
But TODAY, everything was different.
Jinki woke up at the sound of Kibum screeching for him to get up before he was late. He was alone and cold on his bed, which made him frown wondering where the heck was his lover. Shrugging it off, he stumbled into the kitchen; the sight of Kibum wearing pajamas and apron greeted him. Being the loving boyfriend he was, he attempted to give Kibum a back hug but the latter had yelled at him saying that “no one is allowed to enter the almighty Key’s territory” (which is the kitchen) and… Well, to summarize everything, Jinki had a bad morning because Kibum was making everything bad.
The afternoon wasn’t that great either, because even when they were in front of the camera, Kibum would just stick with Jonghyun or Taemin or even Minho, whom he was supposed to have an awkward relationship with. Kibum just wouldn’t look at Jinki no matter how much the leader was trying to approach him.
“Hyung, is something wrong with you and umma?” A concerned Taemin asked. Jinki shrugged, not knowing what did he do wrong but his heart ached slightly as Kibum threw a glare in his direction.
What on earth did I do to deserve this?
When they climbed into the van, Kibum had literally drag Jonghyun to sit beside him (“Gosh, what’s gotten into you?!” “Shut up and sit.” “Okay, okay, geez.”), leaving Jinki no choice but to sit at the front seat since Taemin and Minho would obviously end up sitting next to each other (they are pretty much inseparable, really).
“By the way, hyung.” Jonghyun gave his crooked smirk, the trademark that made fan girls scream on top of their lungs, “Happy birthday!”
Jinki thanked the dino boy and smiled his own signature eye-smile. The leader glanced at Kibum, half-expectant that Kibum would drop his anger and said happy birthday, but his expectation soon turned into dust.
By four in the afternoon, Jinki almost couldn’t take it anymore as he saw Kibum laughing heartily with Jinwoon and some other ’91-liners’. He unconsciously pouted.
How could he laugh like that with other people and scowl at me like I’m the one who makes him the angriest person on earth? This is so unfair.
“Hyung hyung.” Taemin pulled his sleeve. “I forgot to say this morning, and we’ve been really busy just now so I didn’t get the chance to… Happy birthday!”
Jinki beamed at the maknae. “Thank you, Taemin-ah.”
“Happy birthday, Jinki hyung.” Minho appeared and gave Jinki a warm smile, which the latter returned gladly.
“Listen, hyung, let’s have a party later, okay?” Taemin grinned wider. “Jjong hyung already said he’d buy the chickens and cake. So you better make sure to come home early from your musical rehearsal.”
“Okay.” Jinki ruffled the maknae’s hair with affection. “Thanks Taemin-ah, Minho-yah.”
Thanks to the wishes from the members (minus Kibum), Jinki felt slightly better. He managed to smile brightly in front of the cameras, even though it was somewhat plastic because his heart was really bothered at the fact that his boyfriend was avoiding him on his birthday.
“Okay so this is where I leave you guys.” Jinki told the rest of the members. It was close to dinnertime and Jinki had to go for his musical rehearsal. By the time he comes home, it would be slightly past midnight and even though they promised a party, Jinki’s birthday would be over by then.
“See you later, hyung.” Taemin waved and Minho nodded at him. Jonghyun winked at him, mouthing, “We’re drinking alcohol later, no complaints!”
Jinki stared at Kibum, not knowing what to do. The younger boy was still looking really moody; he was staring at his own feet. That was not right. Kim Kibum doesn’t ever stare at his own feet because he always has his chin up in confidence.
“Let’s go Onew-yah.” The manager patted his shoulder. Jinki let out a sigh, throwing one last worried glance at Kibum before following after his manager.
The musical rehearsal was quite fun, Dana actually told the rest of the casts and crews about Jinki’s birthday (most of them already knew anyway since the whole of South Korea practically celebrates the sangtae dubu’s birthday, it even trends on twitter and such) and they threw him a not-so-surprise party. Jinki sincerely smiled and thanked every single one of them, feeling grateful beyond words when they started showering him with presents; a stuffed toy, candies, chicken, new mp3, fried chicken, sweater, birthday cards, a new LV wallet, and more chickens.
But as happy as he was, the sight of a moody Kibum was still nagging at the corner of his brain. He wanted nothing more than to rush home, drag Kibum into an empty bedroom and kiss him senseless demand to know what was wrong with him. Surely, Jinki must have done something to make the younger upset.
It was almost 11PM when the rehearsal and surprise party was done. Jay asked Jinki if he wanted to go to a pub to have some ‘adult’ celebration, but Jinki kindly turned down the offer as he remembered about the members’ party with him. Saying goodbyes to the remaining staffs, Jinki hastily grabbed his things and followed Manager hyung eagerly into the van.
“I’m sorry you have to work so hard on your birthday, Onew-yah.” The manager said apologetically.
“It’s okay, hyung, it’s not really your fault.” Jinki offered.
“Alright. Here, my present for you.”
Jinki chortled as the Manager hyung passed him a box of fried chicken. As if he hadn’t received enough chickens for the day already.
“Thank you, hyung.” Jinki got off the van as he reached the dorm.
Outside the dorm door, there were boxes of presents and gifts from the fans. Jinki promised himself to open every single one of them and keep the gifts, but for now he was really tired after such a long day and wanted nothing but to spend some quality time with Kibum the Shinee members.
Jinki checked his watch and was relieved that he still has around 15 minutes before his birthday ends. He quickly unlocked the apartment door and-
“HAPPY BIRTHDAY!”
Jinki wasn’t one to lose his composure but he couldn’t help letting out a sharp squeak and jumped a little as the members popped the party poppers. Taemin was laughing mischievously and Jonghyun jumped happily, “I told you he would be surprised!” Minho simply smiled watching the bouncy Taemin and Kibum was nowhere to be found.
Jinki frowned.
Why was Kibum nowhere to be found?
“Where’s Key?” Jinki asked. Taemin’s bright smile immediately dimmed and Jonghyun didn’t look so excited anymore. Minho’s face was the only one that remained calm.
“Well, hyung…”
“Where’s Key?”
“Ahem, Jinki hyung.” Jonghyun cleared his throat. “Before you go see Kibum, please promise us one thing.”
“Hm?”
“Promise us you won’t be angry.”
Jinki looked at the three of them weirdly. “Why would I be angry?”
“Uh,” Taemin wiggled. “Just promise us first.”
The clock was ticking and Jinki was getting impatient. Nine more minutes to the end of his birthday.
“Okay, I promise.”
Minho then tugged Jinki’s sleeve and guided him to his shared bedroom with Taemin and Kibum.
“Um.” Taemin said unsurely. “We’ll be at the living room.”
In a blink of an eye, the three members had disappeared from there, and Jinki couldn’t help feeling uneasy.
What was going on? Is Key okay? Is he planning to break-up on my birthday? Why is he acting so weird? Why do the members make me promise not to get angry? I don’t get angry that easily, do I?
He turned the doorknob and was met with darkness. Kibum didn’t even switch on the light.
“Yeobo?” Jinki called softly. Okay this is creeping me right now.
Out of a sudden, Jinki found himself being slammed onto the door - the door closed loudly behind him as someone - obviously Kibum - rammed his own lips onto Jinki. The kiss was a whole new level of intense, Kibum placing his thigh in between Jinki’s legs, making the leader moan.
“Wha-“
Apparently the diva always gets what he wants so he didn’t even let Jinki finish talking before devouring his lips again. Jinki couldn’t help that his Jinki junior was starting to show some attention, but he couldn’t care less because he finally got to spend some time with Kibum and his lips.
“Happy birthday, Yeobo.” Kibum planted small pecks on Jinki’s face, making the leader sigh happily.
“So what was that all about?” Jinki traced his hands underneath the shirt Kibum was wearing (and it was dark, he couldn’t see, but for a moment he touched a material that felt like a skirt), “Ignoring me all day and welcoming me home with an invitation to rape you?”
“No, definitely not that.” Kibum chuckled, his moodiness gone; “I was really in a bad mood the whole day. I’m sorry, but of course I am not forgetting your birthday.”
“What’s wrong?”
Kibum started to gulp and his facial expression read guilty. Jinki’s stomach churned uneasily - is it what he thought he was? Kibum wanted to break up on his birthday?
“-Roo...kies”
“What?”
Jinki blinked. He was too lost in his own assumptions he didn’t hear Kibum rambling.
“I said, Roo ate your cookies.”
Jinki blinked again.
“I’m sorry?”
Kibum looked down, blush apparent on his cheeks, his eyes teary.
“I baked you some cookies yesterday for your birthday present. I placed it on the kitchen counter and this morning, when I woke up the cookies were gone… Roo ate them. I’m so sorry.”
“I don’t have any birthday presents prepared for you since the cookies were gone and I know you’d expect me to give you something special but I-“
Jinki had sealed Kibum’s lips with his own (again) then, stopping the rapper from further babbling because he obviously wasn’t angry over some damn cookies. He was relieved to the brim that Kibum wasn’t going to break up with him and that was possibly the best birthday present ever: the knowledge that Kibum was with him; wasn’t going to leave him.
“I’m not angry, why would I be angry?” Jinki nibbled on Kibum’s ears lovingly. “As long as you’re with me, I don’t need anything else in my life.”
“Y-Yeobo…” Kibum shuddered.
“Just don’t ignore me like that again on my next birthday.” Jinki said sternly. “Or I’ll make sure I would teach you a lesson then, and you can be assured you won’t be walking properly for a whole week.”
“A-arasso.” Kibum gulped. It was definitely not good to mess with the leader. Especially since he recently discovered Jinki’s dark side on bed.
“Let’s go, they are waiting for us.” Jinki intertwined their hands. Kibum nodded and followed.
Jinki was too focused to not stumble or trip over anything, looking in front of him, so he missed the naughty smile plastered on Kibum’s lips as they walked down the hall towards the living room. The living room was deserted - where had the three members gone?
There was a birthday cake on the small table near the couch with a post-it note saying,
“I hope you love our presents. We love you, hyung!
P.S. just don’t do it on any of our beds. You both have your own.
- Jjong”
“Yah, what is he talking ab- OH MY GOD, KIBUM!”
Jinki’s face immediately blushes into a dark shade of red as he finally saw what Kibum was wearing. It was dark in the bedroom just now, but he was sure he felt like Kibum was not wearing a t-shirt and sweatpants - but he didn’t think that Kibum would wear something like that.
Kibum winked seductively as he swirled a little to his left. “Like what you see?”
He was wearing a freaking cheerleader costume!
“K-K-Kibum, w-what?” Jinki stuttered, trying to piece his brain together. His Jinki junior is now standing at full attention - he couldn’t believe that he would get turned on at the sight of Kibum cross-dressing. Then again he remembered he was feeling some funny tingles in his stomach back during School of Rock where Kibum dresses as Gwiboon (the female Key). But it wasn’t so unbearable then, because the school uniform was of long skirt and it covered most of Kibum’s skin.
This wasn’t bearable. The costume - it reveals Kibum’s milky skin everywhere.
“Why don’t I cheer you up since you had a bad birthday?” Kibum giggled. “After all, cheerleaders are supposed to cheer you on and get your attention right?”
Jinki’s thoughts were long gone - his sanity has flown away the moment his zippers flew downwards and Kibum-
Oh well… let’s just say he gave Jinki the most unexpected but best birthday present ever.
