“Minho hyung.”
“Hmm?”
“I love you.”
“I love you too, dongsaeng.”
“No, I mean… I love you.”
Minho shifted his sitting position.
“As in?”
“I love you romantically, hyung.” Taemin bit his lower lip. “I know it’s wrong but I can’t stop it.”
“Taemin-ah, I… I don’t know.” Minho sighed. “You are still young so you can’t be sure and-“
“Hyung, I’m sixteen.” Taemin let out a frustrated sigh. “I’m old enough to know that this is not just a stupid crush. I have had feelings for you for a whole year right now and I don’t think I can handle this anymore-“
“Taemin, it’s not right, okay.” Minho cut him again.
Taemin did not spit back a reply. Instead, he stared into Minho’s eyes - his gaze making Minho feel even more awkward.
Minho watched, as the younger’s expression turned from angry to hurt. It wasn’t long before Taemin slowly got up and walked away.
“If you don’t feel the same way, it’s okay hyung.” Taemin murmured, “But please don’t doubt over my love like that.”
And then Taemin closed the door and left - the thud resounding in Minho’s empty heart.
That night was seven days ago, and right now Minho was anxious. Taemin and him were like twins - inseparable, always together. It was the first time Minho had not spoken to the boy for so long.
Minho had wanted to call Taemin or send him text messages, but he resisted the urge as he thought how Taemin feels about the situation. He understood that the maknae needs the space.
But as the clock struck twelve midnight, Minho’s cell phone rang and the tall boy could not help but feel his heart stammered against his ribcage as he saw Taemin as the caller ID.
Hastily pressing the answer button, Minho spoke, “Yoboseyo?”
There was no reply.
“Taemin?”
Silence.
“Taemin, are you there?”
“… Minho hyung…”
Minho had seen and heard Taemin sad, angry, happy, excited, furious and hungry before, but this - this tone Taemin was talking in - was unfamiliar. Taemin sounded weak and broken, and Minho’s heart ached.
“Taemin? What’s wrong?”
“… Miahne…”
And the line went dead.
