Just call me Uncle Ook.
The video card that Saturday refused to do anything more than Morse code (long, short, short)?
Today works perfectly fine in my Optiplex GX620 at work. Haul it back home and slap it back in the exact same computer that it hated Saturday? Beep! Whir! Lookie there, that's a bios screen if I ever saw one. And that's Windows XP. Huh.
Never fear, the demons of perverse technology have moved on to possess my mouse. I'd been using a USB to PS/2 converter with this IBM mouse for awhile because the IBM software wouldn't recognize it when plugged into USB. The software got chucked sometime ago, as it was buggy and not helpful, but I hadn't bothered to switch the mouse around. My computer refuses to finish POST with that mouse plugged into any USB port. Switch to a spare Logitech mouse I've got for my Macs? No problems.
I had some other problems with that IBM mouse when I tried to use it with my G4 tower (the eMac that I normally use being loaned out to a friend in need) and the Mac froze up a couple of times. Nothing inherent in freezing says, "mouse" but that machine hadn't had any problems until I switched mice. And it didn't have any problems again after I switched back.
I guess at this point, the only conclusion is: "Mistah Mouse, he dead!"
Now to figure out whether I want to send the video card I ordered Saturday back or keep it.
