1) Charles Xavier has no qualms about going into people’s heads and fishing around. He’s only ever asked Erik for permission and said that he promised Raven and only Raven not to do so (and failed at it).
2) Charles Xavier is not weak. To quote Pulp Fiction: Does he look like a bitch to you?
3) Raven is an empowered creature. We don’t see it so much in the movie, no, but we know what she becomes.
4) The fact that Erik was able to cry around Charles, and MULTIPLE TIMES? It’s a big fucking deal. It’s not something that happens often and not unless he’s under extreme emotional duress. Such emotional duress being: Charles getting hurt, memories of his mother, etc. Big things.
5) It’s the fucking 1960s. Please remember that when you talk about TV/Music/things that are period specific.
6) Again, it’s the 1960s. Do you know what happened in 1969? The Stonewall riots. Now, I am all for slash. I love it, and god knows that this movie ships itself. With Erik and Charles, two people who celebrate difference? That’s one thing. But people like Hank or Alex? One who wants to blend in and be normal, and the other who is a bully? They would have a LOT harder a time accepting any homosexual feelings. In the 1960s, and today too depending on where you are in the world, it’s not an easy thing to come to terms with, personally or socially.
7) Related to the previous one? It’s the 1960s. Being romantic in public for a gay couple generally does not = acceptance by the general public.
8) Charles and Erik refer to them as KIDS a lot*, but Sean is probably the youngest, and I’m willing to bet he’s 17 at least. Alex was in prison, Darwin drove a cab and Angel worked at a strip club. They’re all old enough to not be considered children by the law. Hank graduated from Harvard at 15, but very likely had to go to grad school, and he’s Dr. Hank McCoy, so he needs a PH.D too. Definitely not a teenager. RAVEN may look young, but she was…let’s say seven-ish when Charles was twelve-ish? That makes her 5 years younger than him. Someone did the math, and came to the conclusion that in-movie, Charles and Erik are about 30. So, that would make Raven 25-not to mention that Amy(or whatever her name was) asked Raven what she was studying, so not seen as a child. I’m willing to bet (thanks to a friend pointing it out to me) that he orders her colas because she can’t hold the shape at this point when drunk.
*Though ERIK is the first one to call them kids, while Charles calls them young people.
Also, some fun facts to remember:
- Nicolas Hoult is playing a young Kelsey Grammer.
- Angel would not have HAD to wear a skimpy outfit if working for the X-Men, as promised.
- Sean WILL have a daughter if the timeline continues correctly. Siryn is a notable mutant.
- Mystique has a baby (Nightcrawler) with Azazel, and adopts a child (Rogue) with Destiny, who is a notable lover in Mystique’s timeline.
- Alex has two brothers, one of them being Cyclops (though this timeline seems to make Scott a younger brother rather than an older, as he may have been one of the kids shown during the Cerebro pan-one of the kids was wearing sunglasses, holding a baseball mitt and wearing Scott colors, so I’d say it’s safe to say that it was him).*
*That being said, Bryan Singer said the following according to Wikipedia: Havok will not be portrayed as Cyclops’ brother in the film but somehow be related to him in a way that works for the film.
Just a few things that’ve been on my mind.
Love, a fan who knows the comics but prefers movie-verse canon for the most part.
