A few things...

Sorry for posting so much lately to the comm, but, hey, it has to be used at some point. In any case, my muse has been smacking me to post these up for a while now, so might as well humor her, and attempt it.

The first order of business is something I started pondering about today. Actually, I should say seriously pondering, because this has been bothering me a lot lately. I just realized the solution today. It's about Freolic. It's so...different from the other kingdoms, its sort of odd. Like that Sesame Street game. One of these things is not like the others, and all that jazz.

Just look at the other kingdoms. We have pre-BC Egypt, pre-BC Greece/Rome, pre-BC (I think) Scandinavian culture, pre-BC Japan/China, pre-BC...Polynesian...culture. And then we have medieval England. See my problem? I mean, Nuncio closed off Melohdia right before Christ was born, so why is Freolic medieval? Well, okay, better and easier clothing, but that's about it. Hey, I go for the pretty stuff, okay.

I realized today I could totally make Freolic ancient Britain, back when they were just a loose bunch of tribes, with Druids and the like. I mean, we haven't exactly hit Freolic yet, so they don't know what it looks like. I figure it could be a loose bunch of tribes with one central, female leader that they all listen to or something. Of course, this society sort of reminds me of Baldurnan when I vision it, just more pastoral and peaceful. Which I find funny, since each kingdom is on either side of Azibo.

The main problem is the clothing for Geoffrey and Alden. I think I might be able to come up with a design and such, but I think we've all gotten used to Geoffrey's outfit by now. And he wouldn't be a pirate, but a Druid (I think...this sort of works because his powers a general magic, but Druid sort of also falls into Evania's power range, and possibly Leilani's.) I'm going to have to ponder this a bit. Alden can still be an inventor, and be an inventor far more advanced than his peers (hence, the invention of the glasses), so I think he would be fine. ^^;

I'd need to concrete the ideas in my head a bit, but I think I could make it work. Heh.

The second business is religion in Melohdia. I realized recently that I actually don't see any there. I think this is because I'm not a religious person, and don't see it in any of my stories.

Oh, but what? Caelestis has gods and goddesses they worship? Ha, I thought of that. I reasoned, and I hope I'm not stepping on any toes, all the reasons why there isn't religion in any of the kingdoms. Azibo believes in the old gods of Egypt, but know they are in a dimension apart from the world where they rule, so they don't pray or worship them because they think the gods can't hear them. Same goes for Baldurnan. Sumika is made up of people who originally performed magic and miraculous acts themselves, so the ancient Sumikans sort of gave up religion, and the kingdom wasn't populated with God-fearing people. Laulea...um...I guess just sort of lost their gods.

Which leaves us Caelestis, the only kingdom that has gods. But they don't worship them. They just sort of created them because their ancestors had gods and goddesses, and they felt they needed them as well. For the most part, they are ignored, and the people who populate the temples are those with some sort of magical powers, and people go to the temples to get help from them. Sort of like going to the Oricle of Delphi, but knowing the power comes from the people, and not a gift from a god.

However, despite having no religion, the people of Melohdia do in fact worship something. Not a god or a goddess, but rather Ariadne. She is the spirit of Melohdia (different than Shinzui, who gets her Spirit capitalized), meaning she is Melohdia. They don't pray or worship her specifically, but rather fear her, and know a lot of Melohdia's aspects are because of her. It's hard to explain, actually. ^^; Sorry, I wish I could make this clearer, but I have a hard time explaining what's in my head sometimes.

Expanding from Ariadne, if you all recall, I mentioned in a previous post that there was no war in Melohdia. I still stand by that, but I've been coming up with a few things pertaining to it. For one thing, because of something that happened a long time ago, murder is not permitted in Melohdia. No man can kill another for any reason. Now, if you all recalled
callisto_chan 's picture of her last Uni, she mentioned that his Guide was murdered, and the next dynasty was formed. This is perfectly okay, as long as that other dynasty’s reign was rather disastrous. In other words, Ariadne punishes those who kill others, and most people sort of don’t want that.

This falls into the realm of wars, don’t you think? Okay, granted, it falls into the realm of battles in general, but I figure the people are so scared of Ariadne that they don’t fight to kill people. Ariadne forgives accidental murders, meaning if a soldier is wounded and ends up dying because of the wounds, she wouldn’t punish the guy who wounded him.

So, how does this work into the social structure of all the kingdoms? Well, Freolic is pretty much a farmland, and has no real army, so they are pretty safe. Laulea is pretty isolated, so nothing from there. Caelestis causes Ariadne the most grief, but most of their battles are border skirmishes (which are allowed), and attempts to take over kingdoms. They do have something they call ‘guerra’, which is Italian for war (I couldn’t find the Latin word), which is as close to war as they get. The other kingdoms use this word as well.

Balduran, me thinks, is in a peaceful time, save for the Caelesti at their borders, but they have learned control over their battles. Sumika, well, there’s a reason there’s a wall around the kingdom. They got into a ‘guerra’ with most likely Caelestis, and were severely punished by Ariadne. As a result, they put up a wall to protect their lands, and to protect themselves, so there would be no more ‘guerra’. :P That doesn’t mean one of the other kingdoms haven’t tested that wall. The Samurai class isn’t still there just for honor and the like.

In other words, there is war, they just call it something else, and are usually punished for it by Ariadne. Yey.
I really wish I could put my ideas onto paper, because they make total sense in my head, but not here. It also didn’t help that I was typing this while Heroes was on, so my mind wasn’t on this specially, and I lost my train of thought.

But there we go, a long ass post about a few plot details. Yey.
