Hey, you've got a lot of nerve to dredge up all my fears [Keggy]

It was getting to be too much. Life was becoming one thing after another. A crazy ride of ups and downs and surprise turns that were leaving her breathless and wary. In the end, there was one thing she wanted.

Rogue wanted the world to stop. She wanted to get off.

When was it enough? That she watched Gambit die before her? That she had to beat up a man whom had once been her only companion while he took enough shots at her to kill her, trying to turn her into what he wanted? When was enough? Staring into those red and black eyes that were just like his and yet weren't even close.

The strip was as bright as daylight but the side streets and alleys that rogue wandered were nearly dark as midnight though dawn wasn't far off. The hotel was still a smoldering ruin, the mangled wreck of the hotel frame still laying where it had fallen. Moving through the debris she saw something familiar. Something everyone else would overlook.

Picking it up, she stared at the surface but couldn't see past the tears in her eyes as she held a single card in her hand.

The King of Hearts.
