It's been a loooong summer.
Very long.
Back in June we tried to get a generator installed after
several bad weather events, as a back up just in case. The first guy we used took forever with calling and getting to come down for an estimate. That should have been a sign. But it wasn't. He came down to do the job, and it was SUPPOSED to take one day. By the time he finished, he said he'd have to schedule a second day because a particular part hadn't come in and that he couldn't link the switch to the box due to rust inside the box (from a leak that was fixed before we ever moved in...). Okay fine. The following week he was on vacation and the week after that was the 4th of July.
Then came the marathon of weeks after the 4th of July of calling him frequently to get him to come back and finish the job.
When we FINALLY get him to call us, he says that he just came back from vacation (separate from the above) and would be spending the following week in Maine with his son checking out collages. So let's count that all up, that's 3 weeks of time that he wasn't around in less than two months.
We gave up and called someone else to come in and finish the damn job.
To find out that the first guy, while clearly competent with the electrical work, was waaaay out of date and not up to code. >.<
Suffice to say we were glad it was all done and out of our hair. The first guy STILL hasn't sent us a bill for the work he did either, so whatever. We won't pay till we get a bill, and if he doesn't send one, we won't complain.
But that wasn't the only project we had in mind. Oh no. We wanted to re-insulate the house. Our house can get quite cold in the winter, so over the summer we wanted to put in new insulation so we wouldn't have to spend quite so much on our heating bill. Of course we wanted this done in EARLY summer and then relax.
See above on why it got delayed. So while we had our days out and such to try and relax, we have all this hanging over us and when we go for the insulation, we found a good company to work. They wouldn't have to tear down walls and would spray some kind of air-crete into the walls, the would just take down a few slats of siding and drill a whole to spray the stuff into the walls.
But now the installation is delayed because of the above nightmare of the generator, and we only just got to it last week. For four days they were hear taking stuff down, pumping things in, sprayfoaming stuff in the basement, but all the anticipation for it after the generator nightmare was incredibly heavy.
As of a few minutes ago, the OTHER item that got pushed back, the power-washing of the house that's done every fall (and thank God we could schedule it for after the air-crete installation) is finally done. We're back on normal house-maintenance schedule.
It hasn't been a restful summer personally. Add onto this the horror of Syria, the extremely difficult conversation on possibly doing military strikes there, the head-banging of lack of work in Congress (on anything) and now there's ANOTHER mass shooting.
Are we done yet? Can we get a break somewhere? Some sense?
Please?
