As a side note, I also don't like the construction of the nipples. The hat is knit top down, casting on 8 stitches, which leaves a hole. The end of the pattern calls for knitting a separate little "twist" of 3 stitches, not even in an icord, but as a 1x1 rib for a few inches. Then you're supposed to pull the center of that "twist" through and sew it to the rest of the hat. I don't approve.
I've started and frogged 3 times because I don't like the way it looks. Not that I am a beret person at all, but I have the yarn left over from the Velma sweater, so I figured I might as well.
Wow, that sounds very inefficient! Maybe just make one (or 2 if you prefer, and don't mind freaks of nature) icord, then increase from there?
Let me know how you like the rest of the hat. I like the idea of top down hats, but aside from my Foliage disaster (used thinner yarn, overcompensated way too much in how many repeats I worked) I haven't actually made any.
I started with 2 icords and have been increasing from there. Unfortunately, there's a bit of a hole I will need to graft, which is fine, but I think that the heft of the yarn is going to make the 2 little nubbins stand a little too parallel. I'm considering ripping out again and making the icords longer, so I can tie them in a knot; right now tying them doesn't look quite right. I'll try to remember to take a picture to show you.
Okay, I have no idea. But that's what I like to call it.
