I have already been here for two weeks. Woah! Time sure flies. But I have been doing so much too, so no wonder the days pass quickly.
This is my hot Japanese cellphone! Kawaii desu ne?
I didn't have time for karaoke last weekend. We did too much other things (plus I was kinda drained). What we did do last weekend was to go to Jusco. Me, Mats, Gabriella and Henric. We did have the directions and a map, and decided to walk there. Big mistake... we didn't realize that the distance was much further than what was inclined on the map. So we walked for more than 1,5 h before we got there. Talk about tired after that. Me and Mats also walked for about 30 min before that just to get to Henric and Gabriella's apartment (which is awesome btw!).
Anyways, Jusco is this big department store that also has a huge floor only for furniture and other things for decorating living spaces. It is also kinda similar to IKEA, because you put the things together yourself. Also pretty cheap there, so yays. I was in desperate need of some things for my apartment. I bought a big wardrobe for my apartment since they also have home deliveries of some of the bigger furniture (included in the price). So I will get that next weekend. It will be so nice not to live in my suitcase anymore!!! Other things I bought was a laundry basket, curtain for the shower, a trashcan, a coat hanger, and a really comfortable saccobag (no idea what the English word for it really is, but I love it!). Me and Mats also bought a vacuum cleaner to share on Sunday, so my room is actually kinda fresh now. I would say that it feels as if I could actually live here now. Though the bed is still uncomfortable as hell. I did find Tempur (Swedish brand) futons at a shop called LoFt though. But they cost about 60 000 Yen, so I'm not sure... I also need something to put all my stuff that isn't clothes in (books, sketchbooks, drawing material, etc). Right now it's clutching up the floor and my miniscule desk. I found some pretty neat-looking drawers over at LoFt, but I have spent so much money now that it'll have to wait for a while.
This is Henric eyeing our loot from Jusco! We bought alooot of things. And when we were done we stuffed it all into two taxis and drove off home. I was happy because the taxidriver understood my bad Japanese. Taxis are really cheap here too btw. It only cost me and Mats 1780 Yen (together) for a 20-30 min drive home with all of our stuff.
School is taking up alot of time. We get homework every day; 20 sentences of what we did earlier that day. It is really effectful. I feel like I am learning tons. And now it is actually possible to talk to the Japanese somewhat. Like in stores, restaurants, etc.
Anna and David (both from Sweden)
Henric, Elin, and David (Swedes)
Ricardo and Kim in the front (both Swedes), Rocio (Spain) at far left, and An (South Korea) far right, but not quite visible here.
One of our teachers; Kubota-sensei. Thought she was really quick with that little sign and shouted "dame!" at us, haha.
After school we usually eat out at some sort of restaurant. The food here is so cheap if you know the right places to go to! There has been alot of sushi outings, but I don't think I could ever tire of sushi. There are cheaper places to go to though. I'm trying to eat for maximum 1000 Yen/day too. But I never go hungry, or get bored of what I eat. For breakfast I usually have miso soup and a boiled egg and some juice. At weekends maybe some bread.
After dinner we either go somewhere to study together. Like Starbucks or Henke and Bella's apartment. Or we do errands in town or just hang around. Today I got to help classmate Anna with finding some nice clothes for her date on Sunday. After looking around for a while we found some relly great looking (and cheap) clothes for her. I bought a nice looking bag too. And yesterday I bought a parasol!
The heat is really starting to boil here. The Japanese are like: "Ahh, spring!", and we Swedes are like: "ARGH. The heat. Too much. *sweatsweat*". Lol. Well I figure I am just going to burn to a crisp if I don't have a parasol, since I can't get a tan (my skin does not like sun). So I got a really pretty one (black of course) with a little bit of lace. It is nothing unusual here to wear a parasol anyways. It will just help me to blend in more I guess, haha.
Talking about dates and stuff, there are almost no single girls left in our class. 5/8 have boyfriends. And I am one of those three without :( There are hot guys all over the place though. The problem is I don't know how to meet a Japanese guy. I have heard rumours that the girls do the chasing here though... ah well.
Oh! A cool and kinda freaky thing happened today too! I was walking to school with
Victoria, a senior at the same school, and she had bought some melon bread to eat for lunch. She is munching happily on her bread when suddenly an eagle attacks her melon bread and steals a chunk out of it. Apparantly it is the second time that this has happened. The last time the eagle got away with her sandwich and also left her with a bleading scratch on her cheek. Really freaky, and totally scared the hell out of me as I was looking right at her when it happened. Evil birdie!
This is what I usually eat for breakfast. Miso soup, a hardboiled egg, and juice.
Natchan! My favourite Japanese beverage ♥
These photos are from when the Sakura trees were blooming - right when we came to Japan. This is kind of close to where we live, by the riverside.
Me at Kyoto station. They have this sort of garden at the top of it. We have eaten lunch there a couple of times. the last time everyone kept staring at us though. And I mean that they even stopped and stared openly at us. Very uncomfortable. I still don't understand what we did wrong, or if we even did anything wrong. We do look pretty exotic here, I have to admit.
Some photos from when we have been out at restaurants:
Left: Bella and Henke. Right: Henke eating noodles.
Left: Rickard and Carro (our sempai who have been helping us out alot). Right: (from left) Mats, Henke, Bella, and Anna (hidden).
Does this look tasty or what?
That's all from me for now. Lots of more photos to follow. We have started a nice collection of "engrish" photos, haha. They will amuse you for sure. Lots of love!
