Howling at my lamp

Aug 16, 2007 18:12

This morning (or noon) I tried to turn on the light, this is necessary as my flat faces north... There was a creepy crack (coming from the lamp) and no light.
'Fuck,' I thought, 'lamp dead.'
I then trotted over to the DIY-Centre and spent ages looking for an affordable lamp that might give enough light and looked nice. When I had finally decided on a nice model I went home and dismantled the old one. I could hardly unscrew the wire-thingamajigs; the electrician must have been a bit heavy-handed.
I finally managed to connect the wires properly and Look, ma! No light.
I now believe that despite the crack coming from the lamp itself, the fuse in the switch might be the problem. Of course when I thought of that it was 5:45 pm... and it takes about 25 minutes (15 if there's a bus) to get to our electrician.

Meh. So I've probably spent money on a lamp I don't really need and get to spend the night in the relative dark. And I'm plastery. Bloody crumbly ceiling.
At least my doc and pharmacy are only a couple of minutes away from the electrician and I need to pick up my prescription anyway.

On the other hand: I'll make some tea and have biscuits. And the KoL T-Shirts I ordered for raspberrysalmon and me are here. Yay.

diy, rant, kol
