Inspired by my friend's clever use of a valued-checklist for promoting his own good behavior, and encouraged in no small part by both Matty and Sapphire's diligent and layered pursuit of their own lifelong agendas, I've constructed a sheet to help of keep track of fulfilling goals for every day. Every goal fulfilled is a point for that day, and each point contributes to a cache that I can use to buy treats for myself, and if I can't think of a good one, I can trade points in for $0.50 a piece that I get to spend out of direct budget.
I've got six daily goals:
1. Sleep for less than eight hours a night.
2. Exercise for fifteen minutes each morning.
3. Plan a daily calendar of tasks and budget.
4. Eat food only from home.
5. Spend less than $5 a day.
6. Take care of homework for at least two hours a day.
Six points a day is fourty-two a week, a number sacred to my people. Four weeks of this is one hundred sixty-eight points a month, which means I'm spending a maximum of eighty four dollars on an entertainment budget each month. This includes purchases of sweets, books, nights out with the boys, minis, amusing novelty pens, or any other neat toy.
Of course, I could flub the system entirely and blow a huge wad of cash on a day. But part of the system is keeping track of expenses rigorously, and it's a lot harder to spend money when you have to look at it in plain ink.
Oh, and I have a clean room.
