I'll start with the slightly revolting thing. I just went out to water my garden, yes at just gone midnight and while I can see more or less ok from the street light conveniently situated right my by front garden, that doesn't help when I'm not looking where I put my feet and stand on a slug. The combination of the sound of squishing slug plus the feel of squishing slug under my shoe made me release a loud "EWWWWWWWW!!!" into the peaceful night air and do the icky dance. You know the one, where you've stood in/on something and you're hopping around on the other foot, face screwed up, waving the foot with the ick on it around in the vague hope the universe might somehow miraculously get rid of the ick for you and while it's doing it, remove the memory of how the ick got there in the first place. Seriously, I have encountered some revolting things in my time, but that's right up there with the worst. Standing on snails is bad enough and I always feel terrible, but I must say, standing on a slug is much worse. Didn't feel terrible though, I have a garden now and slugs and I do not see eye to er, stalk.
The two things I'm very excited about are the falconry weekend coming up at the end of this month at the International Centre for Birds of Prey
http://www.thefalconryweekend.com/index/ where I hope to spend a day indulging my love of all things sharp-beaked and graceful. My favourite leather supplier will be there too, so if I can sell a couple of pretties between now and then I might be able to buy a small piece, possibly even get the necessary supplies to make my own falconry glove, although that may be a bit beyond my skill just yet.
The other thing I wanted to mention, which I won't say too much about in case it doesn't work out, involves being around owls, both captive bred ones which are used for educational purposes and wild rescue ones being rehabilitated before they are released back into the wild. I hope it happens because it would be fantastic, but we'll see, it depends on a lot of things at the moment. Keep your fingers crossed for me!
