I was inspired by
this picture of David Tennant that has been flying around Doctor Who forums and message boards for the past week or so. I think a part of my died when I saw it - phwoarrrrrr! It was pretty hot. I never, ever imagined him looking like that - with his little six-pack and all. Although, I gotta admit that as much as I love his toned, tanned, and hot look - a part of me will forever be drawn to his skinny, pale, and geeky look.

Anyways, there was a point to this journal entry. I'm on college winter break until Tuesday and, naturally, I've been pretty bored. That photo inspired me to make several icons, but unfortunately my only image editing programme - GIMP - isn't my favourite for icon making. A friend recommended Serif Photoplus about two years ago when I was making images for a Lord of the Rings forum. It was a wonderful programme that isn't compatible with my Mac (which I bought for university use). It's a shame - it was my favourite programme - it was easy to use and had some great effects. I made a ton of icons with it.
So, I tried using GIMP. Eh, it was tough. First off, anything done with the touch pad of a laptop is hard. Second, I'm not a big fan of the font effects (and, well, the font makes the icon imho) in GIMP. So, I looked around for other photo editing programmes and found none. I ended up using Picnic...but it's difficult to mass produce icons with that programme. And, well, I'm not a big fan of it.
Any recommendations for a starving, slightly broke college students for a photo editing programme? I'm looking for one that's easy to use and has cool text effects like bevel and drop shadow. Oh, and one that preferably is free or has a free trial!
Onto the icons and banner!
