I just called my health insurance company. The card has a local number and a toll free number. It wouldn't make any cost difference to me. I actually found myself pondering, "Would I rather stick the health insurance company with the added cost of paying for my use of their toll free number, or would I rather prevent the phone company from getting ( Read more... )

I have had that same exact thought. Though usually it's between a long-distance number vs. 800. Because I have unlimited long distance, it doesn't cost me anything (nor, i suspect, do the phone companies make anything more off my LD calls).

But, yes, for today, you WIN! :)

When shopping at local stores I try to use cash as much as possible. When you use a credit or ATM card they have to pay a fee so they make less profit.

I don't care when I go to big box stores.

Similar rules apply to toll free numbers.
