Title: Mercy: Fly
Author: miri_away
Date: October 19, 06
Rating: PG
Genre: General
Type: Fanfic (Titans, Comics)
Ship?: None.
Summary: It is easier than it should be to ignore the ghosts in the room now that he knows he’ll never come back. Raven, Tim; Post-Crisis

AN: For the fifteen minute-challenge with the word: Mercy. This is my third installment to the prompt. I was thinking of Tim (Robin) and Raven's defensive/detatched relationship when it came to hiding things from each other and thought, well, I haven't read anything about her reaction to the Crisis or Tim's flight plan before he left with Batman, so.... The tension between them is delicious and subtle, but only so when in tight situations like the steps of grief Robin choses to ignore. As such, it must be savored. I didn't have enough time, due to the nature of the challenge, but I'd have liked to have pointed out her connection with Conner's soul, just to rib Tim a bit. Post-Crisis.

Of course he can get into the Tower without alerting the sensors because he has sense enough to not break in this time; because it’s a Wednesday; because everyone’s gone; because of a number of reasons he’d rather not think of right now. He’s still not ready for the look she gives him.

They have both lost a lot in the last few days, Raven and Tim--her friends, his friends, it makes no difference to her because all she’ll see is the Nothing they made when they left. He makes a small effort to hide how disappointed he gets when she doesn’t stop him from packing his bag, even though she’d followed him all the way up to his room; he’s sure she can feel it, that boil-freezing gone that buzzes inside his head, but there’s still a part of him that cares and so he pushes it down into the cold and she doesn’t stop him from doing that either.

Ever the calm one, she waits silently, hands clasped.

He breezes through the drawers, being careful to keep his composure just enough to not rush and stuff the civvies, the extra training sweats, the random pictures, into his duffel bag; he even manages to unclench his teeth by the time he he’s emptied his closet. It is no longer about denying it himself: it is about convincing her-everyone, but first Raven, who could tell, in all manners, the truths he won’t admit to harboring-that he is fine, rational, that he appreciates it all but really must be going now. It is easier than it should be to ignore the ghosts in the room now that he knows he’ll never come back.

She’s wearing a modified form of her uniform, leggings and a tunic that might have been her dress if Mia hadn’t gotten to it with a sewing machine, but her hair is still that tousled crown of dark spikes. Raven might have just gotten off of patrol or she might have been wearing that outfit because she had no other alternative, given the circumstances; she doesn’t say. Tim knows this is for his benefit.

When he’s done, he doesn’t look back. The room had always been sparse. It is for her benefit.
