It has yet to be explained why she left her “father” to land with his psychotic “brother” but just know she did and that Dick sort of abandoned her. Post!Crisis.

Jason holds her hand.
“Nony.” Richard gasps, eyes wide and, for once, open. Nony realizes it doesn’t hurt as much as it used to, looking into that disappointed gaze.

Cross your heart…
Hope they’ll die.
For real. God damn…
It’s real.

Nony lets go, steps away; he’s not afraid that he’s losing her, not like Richard had been. She stops half way between them and no one ignores the symmetry.

Scout’s honor…
What a shame:
No lie. Truth be told…

Richard grasps it, lets it slip. Nony is not surprised, so tempered to this belated flare called love. She explains again--only once more: Jason reminds her with a glare that three is begging and even she can’t believe herself any more. “I mean it.”
